SCEA VP for sales, Ian Jackson, talks about the PS3 worth your money at the price its at. Noting that you won't find any video game system under $400 for what the PS3 is packing, for the 80GB version case anyway.

Ian Jackson also states that the sales target for the PS3 in fiscal year 2009 is 10 million. And he's very confident it can reach that amount, since the PS3 is already close to hitting it.

The standard 80GB PlayStation 3 retails for $399, considerably far away from the mass market "sweet spot" of $199.

But Sony Computer Entertainment America VP of sales Ian Jackson said on Thursday it's the value that counts.

At the BMO Capital Markets Interactive Entertainment Conference on Thursday, he said, "Now, I've heard it said a number of times from a lot of different folks: 'Well, you know, It's all about price and it's all about what you can provide, and everybody's price conscious.'"

He described the PS3 as a device with entertainment versatility, strong game support and Blu-ray compatibility. "There is no product in the industry today on the videogame console market that delivers what a PlayStation 3 delivers for under $400, in the case of the 80GB."

From the beginning, Sony has taken flack for the price of the console, as the 60GB originally launched for $599, due in part to an expensive Blu-ray drive.

I really don't care what Ian Jackson says. And since he's the VP for sales, it's no wonder he'll say it's worth your money.

Though he is right about you get what you pay for.

This just in. Microsoft says the 360 is worth your money, and Nintendo says the Wii is also worth it.

Now this would be news if he said it wasn't worth the price.

it would be worth the money if it had 4 usb ports, the card reader slots and BC! thankfully i bought a 60gb ps3 in july of 07. I dont konw why anyone would buy a ps3 now, for that price with everything stripped away except for a blu ray player, which all have gone down in price.

Yes, I can explain why. I presume you want me to, seeing as you're a bit slow and can't work it out despite it's obviousness.

No I don't know and its clearly not obvious. Listen I don't care if you don't like my articles, just don't click on them and post; Similar to Gothic Girl's. Thats all. I found this interesting and wanted to submit it as news. Don't really care if you personally like it, I wanted to submit this cause its contributing to gamegrep.

You find someone high up on the Sony sales department saying "the PS3 is good value" to be interesting?

          ...really? ._.

Its a god damn article for Christ sakes. I saw it, I found it interesting and submitted it. Stop derailing my article. Not every article to others will be interesting. The reason I find it interesting cause in some ways the article is right. I don't care if this was PS3, 360, Wii, Zeebo or some other console.

I find it hilarious you complain about articles not pertaining to your interest and trash them, yet continue to post in it.

Can you explain how a PS3 spokesperson saying the PS£ is worth it is interesting?

Oh, and I find "derailing" your threads fun. It makes up for the lqck of any real content in the news stories.

With the credit crunch going on its still an unnecessary expense.

After tax people end up with around $100-500 left, is it really worth spending all that cash on a PS3, people have to save for these things. If its cheap as hell people would be buying them in droves.

Of course this isn't the case.

    If I didn't have a 1080p TV, I'd say I wasted my money on the PS3 tbh.

So, a 360 is worth the money and PS3 isn't article pops up. Now a PS3 is worth your money article pops up . . .

It's interesting the different comments each provide, and yet how the articles aren't too too different I suppose.

I don't think this is right since I'll rather wait to buy it after it going down to the 200 since I rather buy a psp.

Why does everyone think the PS3 still has no games? It has bucket loads now.

Kim Jong Il Nov 15, 08
The reason people still make fun of the PS3's library is because it has very few good exclusives.
      • 1
        Red 9 Nov 15, 08
'Cause if anyone checks Metacritic, we only have two exclusives that have average scores above 90, whereas 360 has seven or eight of them. That's not to say we're in need of exclusives, because we have a fair few. The problem is that most of them just suck.

That to me is kind of sad when we're already at year 2. Hopefully that now we have LBP, MGS4, R2, and then KZ2, InFamous, WKS, GT5 and Versus on the horizon, things'll look up. Because as things are, the PS3 in truth, is still really underperforming.

You mean Year 2 Red? PS3 came out at November 17, 2006-07. Which soon it will be November 17, 2008-09.
        • 1
Kim Jong Il Nov 16, 08
          I didn't know there was such a year as 2006-2007, or 2008-2009.

          Red 9 Nov 16, 08
He's referring to the "birthdays" of the PS3, in which the first year of the PS3 covered 2006 and 2007.
