In an interview with Venture Beat, Red Eagle Entertainment film studio said they are starting up a new video game studio called Red Eagle Games, it's main purpose to make games based on Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series. The first movie, based on "The Eye of the World" is already in the works. A game version is planned for release at the same time as the movie.
The Wheel of Time books are some of my favorites and I really hope they don't mess up the game and movie by rushing development.

Former IBM executives Rick Selvage and Larry Mondragon are producers at Red Eagle Entertainment, a film company they started in 2003 after obtaining the series rights. News recently leaked that Universal will make the movie based on Red Eagle Entertainment’s rights on a $150 million budget, though no formal announcement has been made.

“We’ve got a huge running start with this property,” Selvage said. “We expect to have a game based on every movie, and we expect no less than three movies, though that depends on how well each does.”

Between the films and the games, the companies are expecting to spend hundreds of millions of dollars on the entertainment property. While the movie financing is in place, Selvage said he is just beginning the process of raising money for the game studio. That could prove difficult, but he said he has already received an enthusiastic reaction, largely because the rights to the series are considered so valuable.

Wow really? I doubt many of you have heard of the books, but I tell you they are kickass. Though the games may be duds I'm looking forward to the movies.

I tried to read book 1 but never got into it -- not much of a fantasy guy.

It's a shame Mr. Jordan knocked off before finishing the final chapter of his most epic series.

a movie would be interesting. I gave up on the books around book 10 or 12.

Waaait guys. Look it up on Moby Games, this isn't the first Wheel of Time game... there was one released on the PC back in the 90s (I believe using the Unreal engine).

It was actually pretty decent, but the fact that it seems to have been forgotten may mean only I thought it was decent.

I know there were other games, but that was way back, and not that memorable from the sounds of things. Besides its the movies I'm excited about, they could be more epic than Lord of the Rings if done right.

And yeah Jordan died before writing the final book, but I heard his wife and editors are going to try to write the final one, based on what he told them of it.

Brandon Sanderson is now in charge of writing the final book called A Memory of Light and is 70% done with the first draft.
But I totally agree this could be much better than the Lord of the Rings movies if they can get a really good director and actors.
And people should at least try reading the first book it's an amazingly entertaining book. My family is just hooked on this series.

Silver that is interesting - you know that sounds similar to what Brian Herbert did with the DUNE prequels... Apparently he was able to put the books together thanks to all the notes and unfinished works his father had from creating the original -book Dune series. Also could have sworn Tolkein's The Silmarillion, sort of the origin mythology of middle earth was published after his death as well... but I may be wrong about The Silmarillion.

Movies should be good but the games have about a 70% of sucking. I've read up to atleast book 8 before i stopped reading because i just got lost with too much going on. and this was about 3 to 4 years ago. But i still know a guy with the books and a guy that has a copy of the orginal Wheel of time game but from what he says it has nothing to do with the books so I might not go play it.

    Nooooooooooo!!!!!!!

Okay, I'm a HUGE WoT fan (actually re-reading it now) and was hoping that movie developers would never set their eyes on the books. After seeing how the Harry Potter films played out (OoP was little more than bright lights and special effects- hardly any of the story was told) I couldn't bear the thought of the same happening to WoT. The only time I would accept this move would be when they make 3 movies for EACH book. 3 movies for the whole series? Yeah, right. The books are too detailed, with every event playing such an important role that they can't afford to cut much of it.

And, if anyone doesn't agree with me, remember Eragon.

According to Gameinformer the game is going to be an MMO. Why does everything have to be made into an MMO? I'm really getting sick of this happening.

A MMO may work out better though, they put all the books into one game more easily then.

I agree with Z fighter that the books will be hard to fit into movies, but that's business. I do believe that Jorden adds some really unnecessary stuff sometimes, especially in the later entries to the series. It's all about cutting out the junk and still keeping the story and characters intact.

Yeah a MMO might be awesome, though I'm fairly sure that the movie based games will suck. I could really enjoy playing a MMO, though, since I absolutely love these books.
