Only the Games write their review for Electronic Arts published and DICE developed, Mirror's Edge. The game received a four out of five, with great core mechanics, but poor combat.

Mirror’s Edge hurdles forward with such breakneck speed that when it comes time to slow and gasp for air, the sharp edges and sleek lines are unravelled by the in-betweens. Skimming the rooftops of an eerily pristine cityscape is proof of developer DICE’s concept, without a shadow of a doubt. Always propelling the experience forward, the swift sense of speed and flow of first-person platforming relies on the possibility of freedom within linear environments. But that forward thrust has to break pace eventually, and that’s precisely where this game of velocity proves winded.

I don't see how such a negative review can end in a 4/5 i mean maybe i was reading it wrong but i got the impression the reviewer wasn't happy with the game and can see it being something better given time, the score does not correlate to the language in the text.

Tough love I guess. This site never really follows review norms, and it seems like they were so negative because they found the good stuff to be spectacular. Seemed that way to me, at least.

I thought the combat was ridiculous; I could never find a good way to pull off flashy moves...

Yeah they sum it up here well, that the combat only works when you just whiz right by enemies and continue your awesome run. Never throwing a punch. lol.

Bad combat? I thought the point of the game was to stick more to acrobatics and depend less on combat.

Exactly the problem since combat just ruins the flow of platforming. It's almost impossible to avoid it and it sucks to boot.

I didn't like the part where you had to use combat when you sneak into the truck. You have to go open a door with a valve thing, and it sucked. You had to knock out all the guys to get in that really sucked.

The combat could've been better, but it flows well for a game that tries to discourage violent confrontations. I personally enjoyed opening up my combos with a slide and a kick to the nuts.

I personally didn't find the combat system all too bad, however it could have been vastly improved. The one thing I liked, was the fact that you can choose to fight with a pistol (the most lame thing ever, btw), fight with your bare hands/feet or just run the hell away. Great concept and I can see other games in the future taking the format to places where it could be friggin awesome.
