Nobody likes kicking puppies in the face. That's just terribly mean. No matter what people's views on animal cruelty are, most of us can agree that PETA has pulled some rather outrageous stunts in the past, and their methods aren't always effective.

PETA recently set their sights on Cooking Mama, claiming her recipes are an affront to animal rights. They've even published an amusing parody of Cooking Mama on the PETA website, in which the player must show the bloodthirsty Mama the error of her ways and introduce her to tofu-turkey.

(check source for the Flash game)

With numerous holidays on the way, PETA is kicking into high gear to keep dining tables free of Thanksgiving turkeys and holiday hams. Joel Bartlett explains the reasoning behind their latest attacks on Cooking Mama in a blog post on the PETA website:

"Why is PETA picking on poor mama? Because the games are so heavy on dishes made from dead animals that the only things missing are the blood and the slaughterhouse. So in the name of accuracy and honesty, PETA decided to introduce a little of both. So in the name of accuracy and honesty, PETA decided to introduce a little horror into Mama's kitchen!"

Why do I get the feeling they want everybody to become vegan. I know I can't help the fact I like to put my teeth into some steak or something! Just can't be happy without bitching about something by the sounds of it.

Because they do. P.E.T.A. sucks. I'm all for being humane. Lets not put animals in danger for entertainment. When we kill them do it quickly and painlessly.

But I'm not going to stop eating steak or hamburgers. I like the taste of cow flesh. It makes me happy.

Not to mention they're some of the biggest hypocrites ever.

Google PETA, they euthanized 90% of the animals they "took in" in 2007.

Pretty sad of them to go after a game like that. It's a perfectly harmless game! It's not like you're going around slaughtering animals for the pure fun of it. And if they are trying to turn everyone into vegans, then I'll start eating twice as much meat as before.

On neoseeker, the article speaking has an interesting note:

"Better yet, how about laying off Cooking Mama and focusing on video games about hunting instead? I genuinely want to take PETA seriously, but stunts like this one make that rather difficult."

I agree with that comment. PETA is targetting a wrong game, I mean, here, it's only a cooking game. They would have been more "serious" by targeting the hunting games... even if it's only games and not the real things. Anyway, I'm not a veggie but I'm against animal cruelty, even if the animals are only raised for our stomachs... being a dog owner, I do not understand how you can be cruel towards pets.

That does not mean that I support PETA, their way of doing things are not really good.

I never played Cooking Mama but if it is that much fun I might just have to look into it.

    Although Nintendo should really sue.

The PETA game is hilarious, but I stopped playing when Mama went good and started making tofu. Does that make me a bad person?

I did that and pressed refresh to try the first three levels again afterward. The last level is just not the same.

Yes that does make you a bad person. You just turned on of the greatest video games chefs ever into a vegetarian. You should be ashamed.

I could tell but since technically your judgement could be argued to work as effectively for me I didn't think it would weaken the humor. This does but what are you going to do?

    quote
the only things missing are the blood and the slaughterhouse
Well, then WHY THE HELL ARE YOU COMPLAINING? If the only things missing are blood and the slaughterhouse, then the "animal cruelty" in Cooking Mama is exactly the same amount of cruelty my mama performs while cooking dinner, but your not picking on her. No, because apparently, when something's in a video game it's bad.

PETA are never going to be taken seriously with stunts like this. At least target games which make sense, hunting games, GUN, the games which you know actually show animals being killed as a significant element of the game.

Sonic games count (a creature of pure evil stabbed a poor humanoid talking hedgehog), or is Sonic too human to be cared about?

Nah, it's just he's starring so many half-ass games now that we care for him as much as that unfunny guy that Hollywood keeps choosing for their blockbuster hits.
