Some of you hate when a game eats up 3-5 Gigs of memory off your HDD. It has become a problem with some ps3 games, thankfully not all of them.
In a response a forums members question, motherh666, a killzone 2 devaloper has said that Killzone 2 will not be using any HDD installs, optional or required. Now we just have to wait see how long the waiting time is.

This is good news for people because now they can use that free space for other games HDD installs.

whats the latest on the possibility of a hdd install? about how big is it atm if we end up having to?

Does that mean it is going to be optional or you somehow managed to dodge an install alltogether without the loss of shorter load time etc?
If it's the latter, a lot of devs need to take a leaf out of your book.

Good to hear that, but it does mean that the loading times might be longer, especially in a game of this caliper. But I guess we'll find out when we get a chance to play it.

Coi Cki meant "game of this Caliber". Its a typo.

        At least I hope so.

WooT! Awesome! I hate it when a game eats up my memory.

NO! i would rather have it install, seeing as how 5gb don't even scratch my HDD.

but if they do it correctly hopefully the loading won't take more then a day.

If Killzone 2 can do it, why can't the rest of them?

We don't know they can do it, it might not have installs but it may have 95 second loading screens between each chapter or even worse periodic loads mid chapter that stop the game for a split second while it loads and calibrates the data, the same thing Oblivion employed to a moderate effect.

Somehow I really really doubt Guerilla would do that.

Who said there will be long loading? Uncharted did this and there was actually NO loading. SO if they can create a game that is enhanced for the ps3, I don't see why can't tehy have very short loading times.

This isn't automatically good news. Itf the game suffers from texture pop-in, bad frame rate, and long loading, then what? I hope developers don't stop with installs just because some people have had bitch fits over their storage, not memory.

From what I've heard, the betas pretty fast and smooth. So I wouldn't fret.

Now that you mention it, there are no load screens other then the initial start up and those in between matchs, so i take my comment back. This might actually work out just fine.

Might? I have full confidence that it will. Guerilla has surprised me with their dedication to quality, so I'm not worried. Their production values coupled with their apparently amazing gameplay design seems to tell me that they're perfectly capable of achieving perfection.

i say "might" because i like to give myself some wiggle room, "will" is basically guaranteeing that it will happen, and i believe that can only be said if you control whatever it is that your guaranteeing.
I really want it to work, i honestly do, but i hate being disappointed. Especially for something i care for. (and that involves my money) So just for the sake of safety, i'll say might.

Yeah and the beta is running directly off the HDD which is a much faster medium than Blu-Ray which would mean loadtimes would be drastically faster than they will be on the disc, not to mention the beta is a very small filesize somewhere in the region of 200Mb where as the full game is under 25Gb, this game could very well need an install but i respect guerilla's decision to leave it out i am sure it is a feature that can be patched in if it does have texture pop-in and other nasties.

While this does sound good for majority of the PS3 users, I really want an optional install thing. Reason being sure, I have wait longer, but I would like my game play at the best it can be, since we all know the PS3 blu-ray drive doesn't read the data off the disc very well due to it being a old model. But I suppose it's not going to be a issue for me, I just want the game to have no issues at all and I feel the install being optional can help my experience.

You do know other games are different then Uncharted right? How they're made and the engine of the game. Just because one does it, doesn't mean all games will be able to.
That's why Red. As of now 2 games(including KZ2 besides Uncharted) have been able to have no installs. Slowly but surely it looks like devs are solving the install feature, but until they're able to do it with every game and engine, its just not going to be the norm. It will be fixed in time though.
