Microsoft boasts a 3:1 sales advantage on their Xbox 360 console versus that of Sony's Playstation 3, citing U.S. retailer reports. Additionally, the 360 saw a 25% jump in hardware sales over Black Friday 2007.

Microsoft has announced that on Black Friday–perhaps the biggest shopping day of the year–sales of their Xbox 360 console tripled that of Sony’s PS3.

Probably the same thing I do with my pet unicorn

That's actually a bad example now that I think about it. I'd never verbally abuse my pet unicorn and constantly remind it of how horrible it is. I love my unicorn.

I'd like to play on Live with you and Krunal some day. Hahaha.

Not surprised really. 360 is the powerhouse of the next-gen consoles in terms of quality games and price.

No surprise, it is cheaper and there were a lot of uninformed shoppers out just trying to get a video game console for whatever relative they know wants one.

You know... I really don't think MS or Sony has the right to brag at all until they manage to at the very least catch up to the Wii, or the DS. Nintendo is the true powerhouse here, and both the others are merely trying to forget that.
    • 2
      Existence Dec 2, 08
While Nintendo might be dominating sales, the console itself is far from a powerhouse- if you can call it a console at all. Its more of a gimmicky toy.

        Zerpent Dec 2, 08
I was talking about Nintendo, and not the hardware in the console. Graphics isn't everything, and it's about damn time someone realized that.

For those of us who actually know that its not the graphics that make the game but the gameplay.....

The wii is still complete crap.

          Miss Razz Dec 3, 08
In this generation I'd say graphics are important. Sure, they're not the most important thing. But I don't want to buy a brand new game that looks like something that could have been spewed out last generation.

"Graphics aren't everything" shouldn't be an excuse for developers to get lazy and produce sub-par looking games. They should strive to make games that both play well and look amazing. With the technology that the current generation has, there's really no excuse for a game to look mediocre.

Oh, and the PS3 and 360 hardware equals alot more than just good graphics. Believe it or not, PS3 and 360 games can have good gameplay without *gasp* the waggling of a Wiimote.
      • 0
        dwg14390 Dec 3, 08
So the last generation was complete crap right??

Just because it didn't keep up with the 360 and PS3 it had a reason.

It was the CHEAPEST of the consoles.

They still have some great games on there (though not much) and some pretty hardcore titles on the way (could use a bit more though)

The wii isn't a gimmick but then there isn't much I can say since nintendo is treating it like one.

It was very obvious that this was going to happen, almost all the major retailers had amazing deals on 360 bundles, they were throwing in games, hard drives, Xbox live cards, $60 gift cards, controllers, Guitar Hero w/guitar, all on $199 and $299 consoles.
But there were very few good deals on the $399 and $499 PS3s.
I'm suprised the number is not 10:1.

I had thought for a split second about picking up a 360 to play some of the exclusive RPG's....but they aren't getting that great of reviews. Gears of War 2 would be a temptation.....but my wife's foot up my ass for buying another gaming system has me hesitate. LMFAO

I'd like to see the comparison vs. the Wii. Gimmicky or not, I'll bet the ratio was more on the lines of 15:1. Everyone wants a Wii. And when I say everyone I mean anyone who doesn't give a shit about graphics and "powerhouse"s, which is, believe it or not, a much larger audience than to those who do. So go and call it a gimmicky toy with outdated graphics, but its selling better than anyone else. So go and shoot that down. But its the truth. Everyone wants one.

I'm interested in seeing a comparison as well, many people I know still want a Wii, but there wasn't any special sales for Black Friday, stores were just advertising that they had some at same $250 or more price it's always been.

So it would be interesting to see if most people bought a Wii at full price even though the 360 was a much better deal.

I don't give a shit about graphics. Heck most of my favourite games are retro games with poor graphics and amazing storylines. But the Wii? Come on, the graphics don't bother me, ITS THE GAMES. The games on the wii are poor, the only titles that carry the Wii for its hardcore fans are the most obvious ones that have the names either Metroid / Zelda or Mario in them.

I don't care as long as they're fun. Who cares if you play a Mario or a Zelda game. Is it bad to play them just because you don't want to be considered a "hardcore Wii" fan? I agree though. A lot of the games for it aren't really "good" games, but they're fun. Wii Music is a complete joke though. I've been telling everyone to not get it since its just plain old dumb.

And how many of those people constantly play their Wii's!? I have heard quite a few gamers say they played their Wii for a week or two, then just left it sitting there, only being brought out when they have a party or something.

        reaver11 Dec 2, 08
I don't play mine constantly either. But thats because I also have the PS3 and 360. Now how many of those people that don't play their Wii "constantly" also have one of the other 2 systems? Quite a lot I'd imagine. There are a lot better games that I like on those systems, but I occasionally enjoy popping in Mario Kart or SSB for a little mindless fun. And really the Wii is intended for a large group of people. You're not gonna sit home and play a physical game by yourself. Thats just strange.

My friend bought a 360 for this Black Friday. Got up at 3:00 and everything for it. My friends and I actually stayed at my house and stayed up and played video games all night then went out to get it. LOL, he took the two bundle games and traded them in immediately for Halo 3.

That was a fun night. Threw my sleeping pattern way off, though.

    • 0
      Koloth Dec 3, 08
Probably because Black Friday is the biggest shopping day of the year. And sales from that one day alone can change the NPD for the entire month of November. Basically Black Friday is going to make up a huge chunk of the November sales.

However I do agree the fanboyish comments about how great the 360 is are a bit nauseating. It has some fun games and was worth the $300 I paid for it. But I don't feel it is the greatest thing ever.
      • 0
        Red 9 Dec 3, 08
Hmm, that's very true, probably explains why the roads were so busy that day. And if the 360 actually did outsell 3:1 against PS3, that's not good news for Sony. It puts the better part of their holiday sales potential at risk.

I also agree with how nauseating some fanboys get; a lot of the praise is exaggerated. The PS3, the 360, the Wii; they're all material things. You shouldn't be so dedicated to them.

Most people enjoy Wiis for a pretty flaccid amount of time. Just because you 'core' gamers don't like it, it'll always revolutionize gameplay, I didnt say graphics, i sez gameplay.
I have GTA 4, HALO 3, COD4, DMC4, and 3 others on my 360 plus LittleBigPlanet and Resistance 2 on my PS3. I still find MYSELF playing Brawl the most, matter of fact, my friends and I play Brawl first before anything, with HALO 3 trailing afterward.

Whilst some are entertained that 'pro 360' comments are getting the thumbs up, I'm enlightened by the fact that members would even bother posting a comment about 'thumbs up' like it matters.

If we go back in time to say...exactly one year before, PS3's "avid" fans would be running wild like Hulkamania on this here GG. Don't believe me? Then backtrack. Obviously, this piece of news makes Microsoft's console look good, so why not announce it? It's all just a matter of business. Like Sony with the PS2. They don't cease to announce here and there how well that last-gen console has done. And they should announce it, because it's had one of the best console runs ever.

    ------------------

DMD said something simple but imo, true as well. With the bundle deals that the 360 has for this holiday season as well as it's decent library, it's hard to disagree. I think of the 360 like last-gen's PS2...being in the middle of the three consoles in combat (in terms of price, power, etc.), being released before the other two, and of course, racking up on a library for everybody.

Obviously, this piece of news makes Microsoft's console look good, so why not announce it?
As i said from a corporate standpoint yes. If you own stock in Microsoft then this is something to celebrate. If you just own a 360 or PS3 though, why would you even care? The fact that more people are buying the same console you have doesn't mean much.

Personally doesn't affect me at all as long as I can get good games for whatever console.
      • 1
        kik36 Dec 3, 08
Actually I wouldn't celebrate owning stock in anything right now!! Even companies that are doing well financially are taking drastic hits. I've been watching my savings go in the shitter and there's not much anyone can do right now.

Microsoft is down 46% overall this year according to Scottrade. Anyway, just thought I would throw that out there that all of this back and forth about which console is selling better is for nothing.
        • 0
          Slumpy monkey Dec 3, 08
          It isn't for nothing.

Just because your share price is dropping doesn't mean you should just abandon any chance of raising them up again.

"Right guys, our shares are dropping so were not going to do anything about it, were just going to let them drop"
        • 1
          kik36 Dec 3, 08
Us bitching about what console is better is really for nothing other than our own boredom. Koloth said those with stock could be celebrating, I was just saying that they are seeing major losses so even they can't celebrate about the sales.

Never once did I suggest anyone should abandon their stock in anything. I have quite a bit of my retirement tied up in stock and it DOES seem pretty helpless right now when you see THOUSANDS of dollars trimmed off in a matter of days and now weeks.
        • 0
          Slumpy monkey Dec 3, 08

        Storm Dec 3, 08
It doesn't affect me, but I see more people buying the same console as me to be a good thing. Currently, most of my friends only own a Wii, which is great because of the party games, but if we can't visit each other and want to play a game, what better way to do that than go online?

That's where I see benefit from this, more online players to compete against. Surely, I'm not a big online player as others, but when I do jump on, I like to get a diverse group in terms of style and such. And with the bundle deals, my friends and relatives are looking into a 360.

Last year...there were much more PS3 fans on GG. 360 owners didn't really stand a chance. Now it's a bit more balanced.

Depends on whether or not a valid point is being made. I can completely respect someone if they're giving me good facts and getting their opinion across in a generally good manner. But if you just say "360's better because it just is", and that get's thumbs up, what's to be respected in that? Even worse is when I'm just saying things in a mild manner and someone comes along and starts labelling me things because they think I'm overreacting. Besides, for all I know, a statement like that could've been typed by an AI, so it sucks the emotion out of it

When it comes to the Internet-- being a fanboy isn't about liking a particular console to death. IMHO, people commit fanboyish acts just to piss off the camp they find to be on the "losing" side.

Face it: MS sold more then Sony on Black Friday, Sony's movie format won, MS grabbed up FFXIII, Sony grabbed up Bioshock, but as of RIGHT NOW, TODAY, MS has sold more consoles and has more exclusives. To the general populous, that's all they look at, and are quick to jump on the MS success train and insult Sony fans at every moment and make them feel like "you guys lose, sucks to be you."

This bullshit needs to stop, IMHO, I'll admit I've done it before, as have countless others last gen when PS2 crushed the other 2 consoles. All in all the only thing it accomplishes is it just makes GG a pretty hostile place.

Anyway... GG Microsoft, cool to see your console succeed.
    My 2 cents.

      Final Blade Dec 4, 08
Absolute, there's no doubt 360 probably did sold slightly more 360's on black Friday then PS3, but PS3 also sold very well. It's just MS and Sony like to exaggerate the numbers making them believe they really outsold 3:1. Sony has done this before, same for Nintendo. But as I said before, I'll wait for the real, unbiased number reports come in before believing this.

Also 360 has more exclusives, but only a handful more. The exclusive gap isn't as big as fanboy's are making them out to be, and clearly neither parties can actually list a complete disc medium exclusive list. Which further proves the point that the whole exclusive gap argument was exaggerated. That's not to say they don't have a bigger amount, no they do, just not "massive" as some people make it out to be.

Well, to be honest, Gamegrep is only as hostile as the comments that's get posted that's meant to be hostile. And people acting like a fanboy to piss people off are trolls, and shouldn't be allowed on either site. In fact it's also instigating arguments and what's the cause of the so called hostility. If people stop being idiots and acting like fanboys to get people pissed off, maybe we wouldn't have any issues at all on both GG and Neo. Sadly that's not possible.

PSN is good but the service is merely one step above XBOX Live on the regular XBOX. In act it feels very very similar to XBOX Live on the regular XBOX.
You can't possibly expect Sony to jump into this generation not having prior experience in the online network to compete at the same level of 360 XBL do you? Cause I don't think anyone expected this, I for one didn't. And tbh, I think the PSN is awesome. Sure it may not have those little things the XBL has, which to some is a need for online gaming, but for people who just loves to play online without those little things, the PSN does it perfectly. I think when Home comes out and time goes by, PSN will be really awesome. All the gaps between the two consoles are dwindling down, and if MS isn't watching it could all become dead even with no real advantage. And that'll be something to behold.

The systems both have their good points and bad points. It all measures about the same in the end. That's why I can say I like both.

    I agree with Dramon Knight.

The PS3 get up and down, it may be leading for a while, but in the end, it doenst even matter. Itll end not being the best. I bet the 360 will take this.
