Last year Nintendo took over distribution of its products in South Korea after relying on local companies to do in the past, in an effort to better expand operations and influence. Yesterday the company has threatened legal action against software pirates who intend to burn, sell or otherwise illegally distribute its games in the territory. Nintendo already maintains a stalwart stance against software piracy in other countries like China and Brazil.

The Japanese game maker on Thursday vowed tougher legal action against Korean copiers of its game machines and programs. It is the first time Nintendo has issued such a strong warning against the violation of its copyright.

It plans to take legal action even against websites that simply turn a blind eye to illegal downloading as well as makers and sellers of copied products. A spokesman of Nintendo Korea expressed concern about the losses to the company from piracy.
