Today, a mysterious new webpage was made available on Kojima Productions' website, as noticed today by Japanese newssite Famitsu. The Konami logo is shown which fades to the image shown on the right.

Could there be a new Metal Gear?

Check it out for yourself here.

That looks GREAT! lol at the red ring one. But did anyone notice the signs? One sign is an exclamation mark, the second is an upside down version, and theres also one integrated in to the power button icon. Look closer. Its doesn't usually have the dot. I Know that means something. Cause not only do they look suspicious, but they had something to do with the series. This means something, and it will tell us what we want to know once we figure it out.

Damn, that looks suspiciously like the 360 power sitch...and the color is green. I really hope its a new Metal Gear, not MGS4 360.

    Jaw7765 Dec 5, 08
I could really give 2 shits less of how many CD's would be used to play MGS4 on a 360, I just want to play it!

    Shuyu Dec 5, 08
Holy mother! It's green! That automatically equates to 360! God, people are idiots.

Someone on another forum pointed out the two "i"s. Wii spin-off title, perhaps? What? Don't look at me like that, makes more sense than the "green = 360" bull flying around.
    • 0
      Existence Dec 5, 08
      Its not 2 "i"s, its an i and a !.
      • 1
        Shuyu Dec 5, 08
Hence the inverted commas. I am well aware that one is an i and the other is an exclamation mark. It was a hypothesis based on the fact that if you flip the ! 180 degrees, you get an i.

And even with your unnecessary statement, it still makes more sense than "green = 360".

          Ameer Dec 5, 08
Have you even looked at the image? It's more than a "green = 360" argument. That last symbol looks quite similar to the 360's.

Though people are jumping the gun.

          Existence Dec 5, 08
If you actually read my post, Shuyu, you would know that I didn't exactly say, "OMFG!!!1!!1 Green!!! Xbox 360!!!1" I was only making an observation, ie, the symbol looks a lot like the 360 power switch.

I was just about to point that out.

I would LOVE to play MGS4 on a 12 disc set with toned down violence.

But a spin-off wouldn't be too bad. Kojami mentioned that he feels a responsibility to make hardcore games, and this could be what the Wii needs.

Wow, I am really digging deep here.

Anyway, this picture is probably a joke. MGS4 is not comming to the 360. Admit it.

First of all, get off your high horse already! People just make speculations because they love the franchise.

Second, how is a Wii spin-off any more plausible than a 360 spin-off? Don't bash other people for having high hopes if you're going to be making speculations yourself!

I personally don't have any views one way or another. If there's 360 love comin' from Kojima, great, I'll check out his next masterpiece. If not, oh well.

... and Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance was on the Xbox.

Not saying the Wii isn't possible, but I fail to see how someone can bash on the 360 fans for high hopes then turn around and point to the Wii.

The MSX2 version was only released in Japan and Holland, the first time it was released in the US it was released on the NES.

In fact MSX was conceived by Microsoft Japan, So you could say MGS started with Microsoft.

RCG, I don't know about Shuyu, but read her statement regarding about MGS4 and it being ported. I think that's why she might have gone off a little.

With that said, I also think this is unnecessary jumping conclusions.

If you love the franchise buy a PS3 and play MGS4. Cause the only reason people are on this "high horse" is cause too many people just want to bring back the MGS4 360 shit back, which is like beating a dead horse cause its been negated millions of times by Kojima. This is basically talking about a new MG not MGS.
  • 2
    Seeker X Dec 5, 08
This may just be me but...doesn't the last symbol look like the PS3 power symbol instead???
    • 1
      Koloth Dec 5, 08
Technically the power symbol on both the PS3 and 360 looks the same. As does in fact the Wii's and most electronics made in the last decade. Alright, finally a Metal Gear for my receiver.

The 360 is actually more recognizable for the divided ring around the power button.

Know what, i'm not gonna jump on the bandwagon and be all 'OMFG MGS4 ON THE 360!!!!' because i've currently borrowed my friends PS3 and am thoroughly enjoying MGS4.

But from the way it looks, the 360 route looks the more obvious one to take, could just mean that the next Metal Gear will be on the 360 but i doubt that .

O and is it just me or would a 360 port be VERY awkward? Currently playing through the game now i see LOADS of Sony / Apple products advertised throughout it, wouldn't that be strange for Msoft?

    And seriously, A Wii spin-off........*laughs*

"Tactics" makes it sound like a turn based game...WHICH in turn makes me think of the Metal Gear Ac!d games which weren't exactly the best kind of gameplay for MG.

  • 2
    DragonMaster Dyne Dec 5, 08
Yeah, as mentioned, people need to remember; It says "A Next METAL GEAR", nothing about Metal Gear SOLID, so that hints that the 360 might be getting an entirely new MG game.

    I think it'd be great.
    • 0
      Koloth Dec 5, 08
Where do you get anyting about the 360? The fact that there is a green power symbol means nothing. Could just be hinting At the old codec style. People are to quick to jump to conclusions on spurious evidence.

    Drogo Baggins Dec 5, 08
    Wow, this is very interesting.

Honestly, this pisses me off though. Already, there's "official" hints about a new MG(S) game, when MGS4 just came out not long ago. We almost certainly know it will have to be at least a couple years before we even get to see a trailer for the next game tied to the series.

I don't want this game to be hinted at so early, and then have to have such a big wait like between MGS3 and MGS4...

I would've rather had them wait at least another year or so before something like this happened...

EDIT: I really think that the phrase, "A Next Metal Gear Is...", holds a much deeper meaning, and that, if there's something to be made of this, that's where you'd figure it out.

It would sound much more normal if they said, "Another Metal Gear is..."

I think the whole picture above the phrase is irrelevant.

    DC Sniper Dec 5, 08
I think it means there's going to be a new/next metal gear game, as it's equaling a green power light, maybe their way of telling us.
  • 1
    Red 9 Dec 5, 08
If you ask me, it more translates into "A new Metal Gear is 'On'." As for the inversions of the exclamation/letter I, can't say for sure.
    • 1
      Drogo Baggins Dec 5, 08
Maybe it's meant to be a cryptic way of saying a new Metal Gear game has been green-lighted and is underway?

That's the most obvious way of looking at this, and it seems right to me. Maybe there is no real deeper meaning.

Lol, watch the site get updated to say, "A New Metal Gear Is Never Going To Happen", and the on sign changes to red...

      I would cry...
      • 3
        Red 9 Dec 6, 08
This whole 'it's on 360!!' BS is ridiculous. That power symbol isn't shaped like the 360 symbol, which is divided into quarters. It's shaped like the PS3 power symbol, which is also shaped like every other power symbol. I think people are desperate to revive the good ol' MGS on 360 rumor.
        • 1
          Drogo Baggins Dec 6, 08
Yes, I definitely agree that people thinking this is a hint at an MGS game for the 360 are just practicing some wishful thinking.

I'm not saying it won't happen, but I very much doubt that this is a hint of it.

    ShadowJ Dec 5, 08
You know, it could just be a publicity stunt to cause an uproar and get the hype going of either a new MG or MGS title...in fact you could go as far as saying that they could have put this out to test the reactions it gets.

That would then determine the outcome.

None of you thought of that angle did you XD so therefore I came, I saw, I beat you all down to the ground and won...sort of

      Final Blade Dec 8, 08
That could be a small possibility, but there's a problem with it, MGS is done. MGS4 ended everything together. And while there's rumors and speculation on MGS5, I doubt its going to happen, and Snake will be dead in it, and MGS wouldn't be the same without snake. And Kojima latest article proves this.

    Absolute Dec 6, 08
Looks to me like it's a sequel to Metal Gear Ac!d more than anything.

If it was a big Metal Gear game like MGS 1-4, it should/would be "The Next Metal Gear is...
  • 0
    Red 9 Dec 6, 08
Maybe we should looks at it as an addition problem; what would be the result of an 'i' plus an '!' ? Why would it equate a power button? Or maybe we just assume it's a power button, and is really something else.

I don't know. They'll end up telling us eventually, I'm just bored right now...

Before Microsoft even comes into thought, Think about Nintendo (I hate to bring it up)
but, the twin Snakes was one of the best games in MGS History. And Hideo Kojima has put quite a few games on Nintendo Consoles.
    • 0
      Big A2 Dec 11, 08
      Oh great, it's YOU agian.

Twin Snakes wasn't one of the best games, becuase it was a remake, so it was something you could already play on another console at the time.

Also, the reason the early MG games were on the NES is becuase there was realy no other console to put it on.
  • 0
    Linkerd101 Dec 11, 08
    And?
Hideo Kojima practically begged for Snake to be put in Brawl.
The least he can do is have a MGS for da Wii

But b4 that, wait 4 wii motion plus.

Hate to say it, but MGS is done. Story is finished, and MGS4 wrapped up and was the epic ending for the series. Kojima stated he wants to try something else, maybe another Metal Gear. Who knows but not MGS. So a Wii game of it is impossible.
