Blizzard has banned more than 114,000 World of Warcraft accounts for using illegal third party software.

In our continued efforts to combat cheating in World of Warcraft, more than 114,000 accounts have been closed across Europe in the month of April for the use of “bot” programs. The banned accounts were taking part in activities that violate the World of Warcraft Terms of Use, specifically, using unauthorised third party programs to automate game-play. Such behaviour not only negatively impacts the game’s economy, it diminishes the achievements of those who play legitimately.

It is our goal to provide a fair and enjoyable play experience for all World of Warcraft players. To aid us, we ask that you abide by the Terms of Use, which, among other things, provide for the security of your account details, payment methods and login information, all of which can be compromised if you choose to use third-party services or programs.

Over the coming months, we will continue to take an active and aggressive stance against botting, as well as work to resolve other issues such as in-game advertising for the sale of World of Warcraft content and for-pay power-levelling services. Many account closures come as the direct result of tips reported to our GMs in game or emailed to our Hacks Team by legitimate World of Warcraft players, and we thank you for your assistance in preserving the integrity of the game experience.

Can somebody reply and tell me what botting is?And banning 144,000 accounts is WAY too harsh. The people who banned em' are screwed in their tiny heads I guess.

It's not too harsh. Thousands of people purchase "power-levelling" services, buy gold and it's unfair for us. I play without cheating, and I expect the same from everyone. I wouldn't pay for a game full of hackers and bots.

a bot is basically an automated process, "robot", (like those spam sites) setting up macros to farm gold in the game and sell it to you.

Hopefully I'll see less whispers this weekend as those sites take time to create new accounts and adjust their macros.

What do you mean way too harsh?

If you use these things you should know that the consequence is a ban.

Beyond it being fair or unfair, its quite annoying to have people bugging you about buying gold or power leveling. Not to mention the inflation of rare items. Nobody wants to see some player with a rare item that they purchased from a bot farmer when normally it is something to be earned with a lot of effort.

The World of Warcraft has gotten rid of 114K accounts. Not there should be a bit more space to walk when playing the game. But seriously why does every game have cheaters? It's so boring when you cheat.

The people that cheat don't really play the game for the excitement so it doesn't really matter to them if it is boring or not.

Well hopefully this would teach those cheaters a lesson. If not oh well.
