Following a fresh onslaught of Killzone 2 updates this month, PSU has decided to mark the occasion by showing off some of the visual differences and upgrades Guerrilla Games has applied to the hotly anticipated FPS over the past 18 months.

After taking a glance at the shots below, one of the most conspicuous features you should notice is the upgraded character models. In the Dec. 08 version, facial textures have been noticeably improved along with some characters featuring completely different gear and weapon load outs. In addition, Guerrilla Games has made a number of improvements including enhanced motion blur and lighting effects, with colors and shadows appearing much darker.

Just look at the fire effects. They have changed so much. And the detail on the guys beard.

I'm not attacking it over it, I have no problem with grey. Just a remark

Hardly there are brighter hues and more variation in the greys on screen, yes in that scene which was very dark to start with it is still grey but in comparison to E3 2007 it's not as grey, there is a lot more subtle colour on screen.

This game got so much better looking. And the colors, even though they are grey are much better in the newer version.

They fixed the faces; they look more realistic now. Everything just pops out more now.

Not a fan of the new fire trail effects. Also in pic 9, that guy looks so plastic-y.

The new fire trail effects are far more realistic than they were before atleast in motion. At E3 2007 the fire trail was really blocky and really stood out amongst the rest of the games graphics. As for the guy that is a known glitch in the alpha build of the game which is being corrected probably already has been corrected, the preview build was months old by the time we got to see any footage from it.

Have you ever seen a fighter jet explode? The orange flames are very bold and bubbly, not fuzzy and muffled. The original fire effects seem better to me.

In some cases the 2007 build seems much better.

Oh boy i've already seen this argument on PSU and it didn't work, i don't give a shit how a fighter jet explodes. While Killzone 2 is grounded in realism they are still are on another planet, that gives them creative licence to make explosions react how they want them to react. I personally think the new fire trail looks more realistic because it flows better, not because its actually is grounded in realism. I would simply take a more fluid fire effect over one that is "bold" and "bubbly" that is flawed in how it looks and moves on screen. Though it is all opinions no one is going to be made completely happy by changes.
