Final Fantasy XI has released on all major platforms, the 360, PS2, PC. However it did not appear on the PS3, which was strange at the time considering Square's strong support of the console. However a recent interview has revealed that Square actually intended to release the game on the next gen console, but one thing stopped them. The Sony dev just stopped coming, for what reason even FFXI producer Hiromichi Tanaka doesn't fully understand.

"Initially we were in talks with a representative from Sony [to achieve this], but it appears that that person quit," said FFXI producer Hiromichi Tanaka, inducing laughter from the rest of the team. Tanaka also explained why it's a little more complicated to make the PS2 version work than, say, simply releasing some sort of patch or update for the PS3. "[Current] PS3s don't have PS3-side PS2 emulation, and it doesn't look like Sony has any plans to address that issue. For that kind of thing to even be conceivable, it would have to be on a disc. Digital downloads wouldn't work for this. The disc has to be in the system for the emulator to work."

This just strengthens my theory that Sony are shooting themselves in the foot and are the most to blame for the many mishaps for them recently.

They don't seem to be fighting back against Microsoft for Exclusive deals or DLC, not only that but most multi-release companies like Bethesda Softworks are more favouring Microsoft each time this occurs

Sure this situation is down to the rep that quit but why Sony couldn't send another rep (I am sure they have more than 1 ) is beyond me. It just makes the company look lazy or more so in that stage of "can't be bothered"

I don't even think it's possible to even get this working on the PS3. I mean granted I'd play it if it was, but the online is vastly different, not to mention the fact the person in charged quit. You can't blame all of this on Sony though, I just don't think there it was possible to get this gaming working on the PS3.

As for the DLC my I direct you to a quote from SCEE(even though, imo, its laughable).

      quote Yea
.......So I would much rather that we were investing money into making sure that we've got great R&D and we start producing games like LittleBigPlanet, rather than paying other people a huge amount of money to stop people playing their product." - SCEE boss David Reeves

Haha that's hilarious. 90% of the PS3 forum constantly says how evil and shit Microsoft is for paying to make games multiplatform when in this situation it was just Sony not giving a shit that made it happen.

These kids actually think Sony deeply cares about their customers too. It's crazy. MS and Sony just want to make a buck but somehow they've got lemmings worshiping them.

The game was terrible, ever thought Sony realised that before wasting more money on a port.

LOL yeah Final Fantasy fanboys/girls are the FIRST to admit when a FF game is awful. I'm suuuuure none of them wanted to play it. They were probably cool with it. As cool as they all were when 13 went multiplatform.

Ever thought Sony didn't give a shit or is that impossible?

The games wasn't terrible, it was actually awesome. I just think porting it on the PS3 online features was not possible, that and the guy in charged quit. There's nothing else you can do. I'm tired of these articles blaming Sony for something when we don't even got the full info on why they couldn't move it to the PS3.

Agreed, the FF series is losing its grip IMO.

I really hope FFXIII can revive the series. I agree it's losing it's charm.(Though, I did like FFX) In my opinion, the series has changed so vastly over the years, and FF games are kind of becoming average RPGs.

I don't even think I want a remake of FF7 anymore(which is something I, personally, REALLY wanted), because it would certainly be very, very different from the original, and it would probably just damn the original.

We can only hope it'll get better.

As soon as we hear this news, everyone's like "Sony's killing themselves, it's all their fault." I guarantee some of you wouldn't be saying so had this info not popped up. One bit of bad news, old news at that, and you're on the hate train. It's like nobody's looking at the NOW and FUTURE.

That's because its an MMO, all "decent" MMOS have to charge to maintain the game and supply regular updates.

Ok, if everyone thinks they can make games, go out there and make your own, and we'll see how well you go.

I've noticed how much people bag Square out instead of cutting them any sort of slack.

    Same with any other console/company.

    Bah!

How many of this games are they going to make? Isn't it time to bag this franchise already?
