MGS4 DOES deserve GOTY, its friggin fantastic, im playing through it right now and im just starting Act 5, Best storyline EVER! =O!
...What? It's a brilliant game.
He is Red, but it's ridiculous anyway.
GTA IV was a overhyped pile of crap and shouldn't be named 'GTA' the game was boring and repetitive and yes, It shouldn't even be a nominee as there are plenty better games that could be up there instead of it.
I'm sorry GTA4 isn't a overtyped pile of crap. GTA4 accomplished exactly what it set out to do. As I said above, if you don't personally like the game, fine, but don't make these side sweeping statements as if its globally accepted.
As I said I can say SR2 and SA was just as boring, repetitive, story lacking, far too unrealistic crap as well. The driving mechanics wasn't that great on SA and even SR2, horrible.
But guess what? I don't, cause believe it or not, as a game of their own rights they accomplished exactly what they're trying to achieve. And I found some enjoyment playing it. Just as me and others have found enjoyment playing GTA4, which also brought new fans to the series.
Alot of people don't enjoy the game, yes, but alot of people do enjoy the game. GTA3 is to PS2 as GTA4 was trying to do for the PS3, setting the stage for GTA gaming on a new system. And whether you want to accept it or not, GTA4 was brilliantly made. Had a polished soundtrack, way better than SR2, graphical detail was outstanding, the story was brilliant, gameplay controls was huge upgrade from the past. I'm tired of statements like what you just did throwing your opinions around as if its globally accepted. It's closed minded statements like these that starts arguments on here. So please, it is ridiculous when people can't accept that while they may not like GTA4, it was far from a pile of crap and people actually found some fun for the games.
GTA San Andreas wasn't part of the major GTA franchise, but more of a side-deal. Thus the name GTAIV instead of GTA VI (counting Vice City and San Andreas). It went back to the older roots of the previous title, GTA III. This time around, we get a more fleshed out story, damn good graphics, fun gameplay mechanics, a cover system, and online play. Granted, some of these things weren't the best of the best, but it still flowed.
If you look past your nostalgia for the little tidbits of San Andreas that wasn't in the game, you'd like it too. How the hell was the game repetitive? Only thing I could come up with were the crappy hang-out stuff with friends/dates, but that wasn't required to play the game. All games can easily be considered repetitive. I'm not saying GTA IV is the best game ever, but for what it is, it's fantastic to me.
I loved SA and I also have SR2 and enjoying that game, but I never once call it that. I'm presenting two sides of the argument which can be presented for those 3 titles. People loved GTA4 and truly believed it revolutionized GTA gaming and deserved the scores. I myself feel that way. It's obvious not everyone will, and that's fine. Just don't trash a game cause you personally didn't find any enjoyment for it.
As for the soundtrack, well that is more opinionated, but from what I known even the most die hard SR fanboys and a member who loves unrealistic Wacky, gameplay, ChiroVette, admitted GTA4 just had a more stable or solid presentation of music. And he even stated while he loves SR2 Soundtrack it doesn't match it.
The point I was making throughout these posts was, don't bash GTA4 for ridiculous things and state it in such a way that it's supposed to be globally accepted. Understand that while you may not enjoy the things in GTA4, many do. I love GTA games, SA was awesome, although I didn't like the amount side stuff like racing. Cause someone will just make a counter argument about SA and SR2 about how its far unrealistic, over the top....etc stuff.
Although I'd definitely understand LBP winning GOTY. It's certainly a very in-depth and innovative game.
Its just that the VGA will from then on be unreliable,Bias and getting paid by MS.
Cuz seriously, it doesn't deserve it. It shouldn't even have been nominated IMO...
LBP, MGS4, or Fallout 3...Maaaybe Gears 2, but meh...
Let's see some MGS4 love.
Doesn't make a difference to me as to which title takes the GOTY spot, all mentioned are great candidates.
I actually liked GTA IV quite a bit as a well-rounded game. Since I'm not exactly a GTA fanatic (though the franchise is pretty entertaining), I didn't see IV in the context of another GTA, but just for what it is. Don't see why everyone's all mad that it's been nominated. Honestly, they're all great titles. I haven't gotten to play LBP or MGS4, but I'm sure they're just as worthy of being nominated as Fallout 3, Gears 2 and GTA IV.
They're all good games anyway, so what's the big deal? If a game you like doesn't win, will you like it less?
Oh and sorry for my earlier post if I was too brash, I was just venting a little due to me seeing this too much and exploded. But seriously GTA4 is a kickass game. GTA3 was about innovation and story driven like GTA4. The only difference between them is, GTA3 had better rewards at the end of the game.
Its a shame that GTAIV is given so much ridicule from people within various internet communities. To be frank, I did not enjoy GTAIV. Theres no definitive way to explain it, but in saying that, it was extremely polished and had terrific production values. It was the pinnacle of entertainment and immersion in my opinion, whether I could adjust to it or not.
Personally, I do think it should win Game of the Year ultimately, because it did do alot, and did alot well, and although It wasnt for me, I can still recognise and acknowledge that the game was a fantastic entry in what is almost a god-like series.
People sometimes lose focus and forget that, behind the fancy website, the flash video and the clever journalism, they are all humans, and as such, have preferences and opinions. Don't be worried if your "GOTY" does not win, after all, you know personally that it was your favourite. It seems many people undervalue themselves and do not have faith in their own opinions and experiences, and need a website to define such for you. And thats a crying shame. Because the majority of you are wise and intellectual people from my experiences on here. Enjoy your game and hope for the best. But if not, at least you thought it was worthy.
