Some companies really don't like to lose against Nintendo. I just can't believe what Robbie Bach said. How long will Microsoft take to take the Wii seriously?

Robbie Bach leads the division that's responsible for Xbox 360, and he recently discussed Wii and PS3 in an interview with Eweek.com.

Claiming to mean no disrespect to Nintendo Wii, he then went on to belittle the product for a variety of reasons.

"It’s a very nice product, but it actually has a relatively specific audience and a fairly specific appeal, frankly, based on one feature, which is the controller itself."

"And the rest of the product is actually not a great product—no disrespect, but … the video graphics on it aren’t very strong; the box itself is kind of underpowered; it doesn’t play DVDs; there are a lot of down-line components [that] aren’t actually that interesting."

He's not enamored of PS3 either, describing "...Sony, I think, has some real challenges. They’ve got a pricing problem, they have a cost problem, they have a content problem, and they don’t have an online service."

So, how many more months of Wii being number one will it take before Microsoft takes the console seriously?

yeah, the wii has a very specific audience: kids, adults and non-gamers =P

I've found that people who are non-gamers and thus don't have their fingers conditioned to use the myriad of buttons on a normal controller able to use a wii and enjoy playing it.

Just let him talk. It's his opinion on what he thinks.

But he needs to read the news because I believe Wii will play DVDs next year.

And he should also read the news, Sony has developed a cheaper cell which will lower the price in a few months i believe to $499 or even less than that.
And currently he may have a point, about wii. But remember it just came out same month as ps3 plenty of time to upgrade.
But if you count the wii shortages til 2009 then they might have a problem.

I thought it was clarified that the shortage issue for Wii's was to be resolved by the end of THIS year, not this rubbish 2009 notion. Regardless, the speaker is either very ignorant (not an idea to be tossed aside) or he wants to play down Microsoft's fear of the Wii as much as possible to avoid a stock price slump.

This guy is so right. Nintendo should broaden their horizons beyond just the Halo playing demographic, and follow Microsoft's path of pulling in non gamers as well as gamers. I mean, obviously a fully motion sensitive controller with pointer functionality is so gimmicky compared to shiny graphics and, um, shiny graphics, when they aren't even the best graphics on the market.

Oh wait, maybe I got that backwards, my bad. [/sarcasm]

Sounds like a bullshiter to be honest, how can he say that the Wii is aimed towards a specific audience? What does that make the Xbox geared towards then, a flea?

Surely if the Wii was so much like the Xbox 360, he'd be complaining. Can't he accept that it's different? I don't really care, it's his laaaaame opinion.
