It's no denying many PS exclusives have hit the bandwaggon of multiplatform, even the highly regarded fighting game Tekken 6 part take this move. Namco responded to the reasons why this PS exclusive went multiplatform. It appeared many fans of the series that moved to the 360, expressed their interest in the title and cried out for Namco to turn this into multiplatform to play it. And you can't deny the numbers of the 360 in 3 years, even the most die hard PS fanboys. Acknowledging the numbers and knowing the 360 has a much larger install base right now compared to PS3, it was only right to move this multiplatform so those fans that cried out can play the game.
Effectively the move was cause of the fans. But I'm sure sales and money also played a great role in this. DMC4, GTA4 and even the most recent news of the so called exclusive FF13 has fallen to the hands of multiplatform for the same thing. While fanboys of PS3 are detesting these moves, anyone with a clear head can see this is the right move for the company at this time.

Tekken 6 developer Katsuhiro Harada has revealed that Namco Bandai took the classic fighting series multiplatform in order to appease the fans. In news that will shock nobody, selling more units appears to have been an incentive too.

"Yes, we have developed it PlayStation 1, 2 and now 3, so it is true that we have really grown with the PlayStation brand," Harada told Kikizo in a lengthy interview. "We have a lot of fond memories, and we worked very closely with Mr Kutaragi as well, so we had a really good relationship. We love the platform."

"[But] there are a lot of Xbox users out there at the moment," he went on. "and a great deal of fans who only have an Xbox and really want to play Tekken, which is the number one in the fighting genre. And we just had so many fans that said "we really want to get our hands on it, but can't."

"So we wanted to answer those fans. And it's also the timing at this point - at the moment we have two high spec consoles on the market at the same time; the Xbox has a huge installed base in Europe and America. So it was more about trying to answer the fans' requests and having as many as possible be able to get the game - that was the objective there."

Harada, who serves as (deep breath) Manager of Game Design Section 2, R&D Dept. 1, R&D Div. 1 at the Contents Production Headquarters of Namco Bandai Games Inc, also peeled apart some of the tech powering Tekken's latest outing

I personally didn't see any Xbox 360 outcry but whatever made up excuse makes them sleep better at night...

I only had to wishes when I bought my 360, to have Tekken and to have Time Crisis. One out of two so far isn't bad.

Yes they don't deserve to sleep at night. The path of the righteous Developer is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of the evil 360. Blessed is the Developer who in the name of charity and goodwill shepherds the weak through the valley of the PS3, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And Sony will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy Their brothers by going multiplatform. And you will know His name is Sony when He lay His vengeance upon thee.

Not really. The PS3 forum has had something similar up in the console war thread for months. And the actual phrasing was made up by Chirovette well over a year ago.

But I do give him credit for using a different passage. I might have to save that for use later on.

Haha, aw come on. I've equated fanboys to the Jihad a long time ago and the whole religious-like concept of console wars has been around forever. All I did was replace God with Sony from a commonly known passage used in Pulp Fiction. I wasn't ripping Chiro or anything when I made the comment, I woulda done it anyway seeing as how I just rewatched the movie when I did it. There was some creativity for putting the two together.

I didn't say you ripped off Chiro or any other source. I just said it has been done before. And I did say I would have to save the quote for later use.

Oh I don't know, how about none of Sony's various upcoming 1st party titles?

      Think, stupid.

Anyway, while this was a good move for Namco, I don't see a 'huge' gap between the userbases of PS3 and 360. Exaggeration ftw.

That's not to say the PS3's userbase is small. It's already in the ten-thousands.

More than 10 thousand. The PS3 user base is somewhat 17 million strong.

Exactly. While it's still 6 million behind its main competition, it's still pretty big.

So Tekken's a multiplatform now, huh? Great. >.< Well, looks like another one slips from Sony's clutches and didvdes itself among the competition.

It's been known for awhile now. Personally I love Tekken but I don't care if its a exclusive or not. Fighting games tend not to be exclusives anyway. Regardless Tekken 6 moving to both consoles was best for the franchise and user base as well as namco.

The fact of the matter is Namco have done the right thing and delivered the game to ALL of the fans regardless of system.

Eh, I stopped enjoying Tekken way back with Tekken 3, but I'm sure this made quite a few 360 owners happy.

This article makes it appear Namco has always made the wise decision to improve sales, but likely money is exchanging hands behind the scenes. Tales of Vesperia was an XBOX 360 exclusive, on by far the worst selling system in Japan. Japanes gamers typically account for about 70-80% of typical JRPG sales. And the wopping 150,000 copies sold worldwide back this up.
