I have seen different articles on LittleBigPlanet being a flop and others saying it definitely isn't a flop because of it's late October release. Well now Gamasutra has come through with the numbers. I wouldn't call the game a flop by any means, but it is now definitely hard to say the game is selling well with these numbers (especially during the holiday season)

Sony placed a considerable publicity campaign behind LittleBigPlanet, and the Media Molecule-developed PlayStation 3 exclusive generated lots of buzz. It didn't make November's top 10 titles, though -- so how did it sell?

Well, LBP moved 141,000 units in the United States during November 2008, according to figures provided to Gamasutra by the NPD Group. The title had debuted eighth in the October console software sales charts with 215,000 units sold.

November's weaker showing dropped the title out of the top 20 across all consoles. Across all PlayStation 3 software in November, though, LittleBigPlanet was ranked fourth behind Activision's Call of Duty: World at War, Sony's own Resistance 2, and Midway's brawler, Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe.

I wouldn't say it was a flop, Just that it got covered by other games, Like COD. I bet it will sell lots this month, and wouldn't be surprised to see it in the charts.

most gamers who aren'y glued to the internet aren't even aware that the game exists; despite having obviously seen the incredibly vague commercials.

Exactly.....a lot of people here don't get that. Most people don't know about games until they are televised and/or released.

I don't get the hype of the sales. It's a fapping brilliant game, I could care less for sales.

You and I could care less, yes, but not Sony. Their future games depend on this, you know.

I'm not too surprised. There was way too much bad press and most of that bad press was WAY over exaggerated such as the moderation articles. The legit bad press that LBP got though (beside the delay), was that they had major server problems at the start. But that's to be expected . . . the beta codes alone brought utter destruction to any website that chose to give them out!! And that destruction came within an hour of the start!!

The problem with LBP is people don't fully understand what the game is and what the aim of the game is unless they read into it alot or got hyped up for it etc.

In all honesty i don't think Sony's marketing campaign will be very successful at all. After watching the adverts all they tell me is that you can create your own levls in the game and it shows little sackboys running around...again unless you got hyped for it and actually know anything about the game it looks pretty damned boring.

BTW before anyone flames me saying 'you don't know anything you don't have the game' etc, i do have the game, i have had it since its UK release. Im just saying that its no surprise LBP is failing when Sony have markedted it the complete wrong way.

Exactly, any person who is uninformed about the game sees the adverts and just thinks it is a game for little kids. I'm 18 years old and am in college right now. I live with 5 other guys and I told them I was thinking about getting the game and the first thing they thought of when I said it, was why the hell would I be getting a game for 10 year olds. The ads for the game are childish and frankly, the cover and name of the game imply a childish tone. Anyone out of the loop of the game is going to pass over it rather quickly.
