We've seen this year have some awesome titles for all 3 consoles, especially PS3 getting some great sales. But apparently according to CNN PS3 is dying by the hands of 360 and can't compete.
Reasons are PS3 is too expensive, and it also being a blu-ray player and no one wants hi def movies, although that sounds extremely skeptical based off Blu-ray being the number 1 electronic this holiday season. The last reason is PS3 has no must buy titles, LBP generated Buzz but isn't a game changer and neither is Sony's Home.
So what's the solution....wait for it.....Ah that's right massive price cuts. Like we didn't see that one coming. <rolleyes>
So, do you think he has any merit to these claims, or is it just another elaborate fanboyish exaggeration? You decide.
Sony's (SNE) PS3 is dying on the shelves.
Alone among the three major videogame consoles, sales of the PS3 are down about 19% from November 2007, according to the latest stats from the NPD Group. Sony was only able to sell 378,000 PS3s this November, compared to 466,000 last year.
And the problem for Sony isn't the recession, it's the PS3. Microsoft (MSFT) put up respectable numbers with its Xbox 360, selling 836,000 units vs 777,000 in November 2007. And Nintendo's (NTDOY) Wii continues to dominate the market, more than doubling sales from 981,000 to 2.04 million.
So why is the PS3 flopping so badly?
1. It's the most expensive console on the market, $150 - $200 more than its rivals. Even if you believe the video game industry is "recession-proof" (it isn't), a tanking economy makes consumers more price-conscious.

I do not think the PS3 is being killed by the 360 though. I do believe the recession does play a part in its decline; I mean chaos or not, consumers who were intending to buy an entertainment console will still do so. They may just go cheaper.
I'd like to see a report of this nature in exactly 1 year from now. I bet you things will change. My prediction is that 2009 will see the PS3 dominate in software sales and more units will be shifted because of its soon to be superior libary. Thats my opinion of course, others will understandably see it differently.
I understand the PS3 is the perfect system for a lot of people; but for me, MGS4 is the only thing keeping the system, and it isn't worth $400.
I don't agree with Absolute in his "logic" in selling, but that's his opinion for his own needs, so it's all fine.
What?
EDIT: and somehow this guy gets a thumb-up...
...aaaand now I'm back to playing Resistance 2 and Left 4 Dead.
Most people buy PS3's for blureay, but some people think the shape is awkward and end up buying Panasonic BluRay players ore something. But most parenat see LittleBigPlanet and say, Oh My Gosh, thats so cute, and the family could utilize that....
I hate how the Marketing 4 the PS3 is family.
