Master Chief to wed couple [A Halo love story]

chautemoc | December 14, 2008 | News | PC Playstation 2 Misc
Here's proof not all FPS fans are dual shotgun-wielding maniacs IRL: Desirai Labrada and John Henry are two Halo players who met online, fell in love, and are now getting married. Master Chief himself will serve as the officiant to wed the two. Some sweet.
Desirai and John are big-time "Halo" players. She games under the name SickNDeHead. He plays as PsychoVandal. They met when she lived in New York and he was in Florida. She'd become Xbox Live friends with his roommate, and they slowly started to play games together, regularly. When he didn't show up online one day during the time they usually played, she sent him a message and her phone number.

"I was drawn to her laugh," John said in a phone interview with MTV News earlier this week. "I had made her laugh a few times and thought her laugh was kind of cute."

They played "Halo" as teammates. As they were falling in love, they tended to protect each other a lot, watching each other's back as lasers and grenades fell around them. And in an act of sacrifice only possible during a blossoming romance, Desirai agreed to take Dramamine so she could last through three-hour binges of campaign mode on "Halo 3" with John without getting motion sickness.

That's true love.

Can you imagine if their kid wanted to play MGS4???

Oh wait, they won't have kids...

Why wont they have kids? Male and female, both loving each other, and with the prospect of creating a life, and starting a family, what possible cause would stop them from doing so?

It's sad to suggest that a video game would stop two loving people having children. That's suggesting you won't have any either. Don't say "It's 'cause of their wedding" because that's a lifestyle choice, just like having children.

I can understand how they both like Halo and met and in love, but having someone dress up as Master Chief(if i'm reading this right) and him wedding these two is just getting ridiculous.

It's like Crossing a fine line tbh.

@Kill believe it or not, not every couple when married wants kids.

I love the idea of meeting up and how they love each other too. Yet . . . having the one giving them away dressed as Master Chief . . . . Yeah that's a bit much there!

Yes Im aware of that, but to assume that they won't have them just seems silly lol. Anyway, nice article. Makes a change from the stabbings and other stuff as an apparant "result" of video gaming.

Krunal is just a prettier man. Well, let's just say that's not a Key Sword.

Don't see what is wrong with this to be honest. Many people out there have various themes for their weddings. No one complains when people have beach weddings or mardi gras weddings. This is just another themed style wedding. Sure, the theme may be a bit unusual but it is what brought these 2 together. They love each other and as weird as it may sound, Halo brought them happiness together. I wish them well and I hope they have a happy wedding day.

Having someone dressed as Master Chief to wed these two people is ridiculous. It's like people asking someone to dress up as Sackboy to wed a couple is ridiculous and extremely weird.

Well its their choice really, At the end of the day, its there wedding.

They should do whatever they feel is right for them, Halo obviously played a key roll in their relationship and they want to integrate that into one of the biggest days of their life.

Still doesn't make it any less ridiculous or lame.

But what can you do? They would go ahead with it anyway.

It is only ridiculous and lame to some people though. Sure, I think it is out of the ordinary and definitely not something I would do. But you have to remember that it is THEIR wedding day. Halo played an important role in their life and relationship. It is their special day and they are entitled to make it perfect. Having Master Chief wed them makes their day just that much better and with that, everyone should just respect their decision. It is their wedding day for crying out loud.

I think it's rather sweet, actually. Since I'm not religious, I wouldn't mind being married off by someone person of authority dressed as my favorite video game character...

Like Jeterocks said, themed weddings aren't exactly new, and this one sounds pretty tame by comparison to a lot of other weddings I've read about.

It may seem a bit odd but if you enjoy it then it's all good. I went to a medieval themed wedding a few years back and it was brilliant, I love my history. Though to some it would've been odd, not a "traditional" wedding.

Having Master Chief wed them (though certainly uber geeky), is no less odd than having having a wedding 'before god, in the eyes of our lord' >_>

At least Master Chief, whilst fictional, you can actually SEE >_>

Not to take a dump on Religion and belief in God or Gods, just try to think about it from an outsider's perspective, for a moment...

I say more power to them, since they both <3 Halo so much. I guess Halo is like their religion, or at least denomination >_>

I feel Unblack Metal shows that Christians are slowly becoming more tolerant of things and not so uptight. They aren't rude and don't slag off other religions, just like people are entitled to their own beliefs. Therefore only zealous/fanatical Christians would take offence really.

Hey I'm VERY zealous in my beliefs. They permeate every part of my life and I enjoy living by them! So zealous is not equal to easily offended.

It leads to quick retorts though, it's no different to being a game console fanboy. There is nothing wrong with it, but it shouldn't become a problem socially.

I'm fairly nice and polite (for the most part), believe it or not, and I'm also about as Politicaly Correct as they go, but I don't hold back that much when it comes to religion. Belief in something where the really is no proof just annoys me.

Besides, in my eyes, I'm not really saying anything worse than "Ghosts probably don't exist". There ar a lot of religions, and much of the world belives in a higher power, but just because it has more support, doesn't make it any more unlikely or ridiculous as the idea of believing in ghosts....

If all of a sudden everyone started thinking that eating shit was healthy, that wouldn't change the fact that it is NOT healthy, but you try telling that to people who are shoveling it in their mouth, and spewing it when they speak.

Meh, I'm feeling particularly annoyed and unconcerned about the backlash, as I recently came of IE forum, which had people supporting the idea of a 6000 year old Earth, entirely on faith and "All the scientists are lying" argument...Doesn't exactly make a rational person feel that 'faith' and the like, are things that should be treated nicely. At least, not all the time -_-

Meh, whatever. People can be pissed at me, I just don't have much tolerance left in me at the moment....
