Dan Hill, Home service manager for Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, thinks it will eventually shift consoles.

Oh Sony, you're so funny...wait, you're serious???
Get out.
So long as they flesh it out, and advertise it enough, people'll buy into it.
I'd rather they use that money to secure 3rd party exclusives and/or enhance 1st party and 2nd party games....
MGS4 was good but was still overrated. Just like Halo 3, GTA4, the Resistance games and Gears of War 2. That was one of the reasons I got the PS3 although I mainly did because the bundle came with the last PS2 BC 80 gig units. But those games were just good for one playthrough. Gears of War 2 though is an exception. I just have this strange fetish for playing horde just to pop heads.
Much of the "good" PS3 games are considered good because they are a technical marvel. This especially being GTA4 and Heavenly Sword. Perfect examples. They were beautiful as a piece of art but as games they just ruined it for me with sloppy or bland gameplay, horrible targeting system, etc. etc. Warhawk is like the only game that is opposite that. That game is just ugly but it's hella fun.
Heavenly Sword games quality wasn't disappointment. In fact It was outstanding. The only valid complaint I hear is the length and even then I say that's a stretch. God of War is around the same length on average, although it does have more modes.
God of War is different because it actually has cohesive gameplay and movements. Heavenly Sword I'm just running around hacking and slashing. As fancy as it gets is an animation or a combo which the game just tells you to press a button and the game does it for you.
Sorry, I thought "quality" was a matter of gamer opinion and personal taste? Guess I was wrong.
Okay, let's get serious. I'm just going to make an observation here, but it looks like the current advertising for Sony and Microsoft goes something like this...
Sony, based on the TV ads I've seen over the past few years, advertise quite heavily with non-exclusive titles. I remember when GTA IV first game out, the telly was flooded with ads for the PS3 version. Even now, there's stuff like Guitar Hero World Tour for the PS3, and Sony's employing the help of retailers like Best Buy to advertise for them -- there are other non-exclusive title adverts of course, I just can't remember them all. Sure they push their exclusives too, but I feel like they're pushing their non-exclusive titles more, which is rather strange. On the other hand, I also think it's weird that Microsoft doesn't seem to be counter advertising...
Recently, Microsoft is pushing that family-friendly image with their Indiana Jones and Kung Fu Panda 360 bundle.
I'm sure over time Home will develop into something.... much better than it is now. But I can't really imagine the PS3 using it as their selling point. Microsoft doesn't use LIVE in its adverts, though gamers and smart consumers can easily learn more about it.
Then again, these corporations don't spend billions on advertising for nothing. Sony will no doubt find some way to spin this one. Perhaps they'll appeal to the casual market as well, playing off social networking communities like MySpace and Facebook?
Edit Just a side note to Koloth's comment, but the 360 also had its one day of glory when its Japanese sales surpassed those of the Wii due to an exclusive J-RPG title -- I forget the name, not a big J-RPG fan. It was some time after MGS4 anyway.
Brilliant, your methods to try and discredit my own post only served to discredit yours. Simply genius, I'm not sure I could do that.
Gears 2 is largely considered to be a huge disappointment, but it was advertised as a big system seller and that's what it did. Halo 3 was considered to be a disappointment as well, yet it sold a metric shitton of consoles.
The best 360 games aren't even the huge "system sellers". Mass Effect and Fable 2 didn't exactly force consoles out the door and keep people in lines for hours just to get them, but they've actually done well.
Another issue gamers have with big games, namely sequels, is that they are "too" different from their predecessors. I'm not going to argue about the nostalgia bit, because I too miss the past years, but if no new features and such are added to the sequels...they'd might as well make expansions or DLC instead.
The 360 doesn't need one game to be a huge selling point, though. They've got such a large and good library that people won't just say, "I'll buy 360 just for Halo 3!" or some other bs. Games like Mass Effect and Fable II still sold very well, doesn't matter if they were not 'system sellers.' Regardless if people find games like Gears 2 and Halo 3 to be disappointing, that doesn't take away the fact that they are great games worth playing.
People are bashing Gears because there's so much wrong with it. Glitches everywhere and broken online/multiplayer will do that to you. People still play Halo 3 solely because of its online.
And sorry, I should mention at the end of my other comment, "...great games worth playing...to me." There's no fact with what game is "great" or not, just our taste. Are the popular games not meant to be great ones because they are...popular? Whatever the case, I don't care what's considered popular (or good) or not, whatever previews and such that interest me will be the deciding factor when picking out a game. I'll enjoy it, that's what matters.
Storm gets my point, and the thumbs up(s) indicate he isn't alone. I'm satisfied with that. Whew.
And I can also guarantee you majority of the users who played HS game has NEVER complained about the combat, which also makes me question your comment about Heavenly. Sword. As I said the most I ever heard is the gameplay length, which I'll agree it was 5 hours, but that's just as close as God of War and even more so has an engaging story. The game itself was brilliantly made in every aspect. And tbh, for what it did, doesn't need to be longer.
If you're going to complain about hack and slash game, Heavenly is definitely not on the top list, and devil may cry, one of my favorites, should DEFINITELY be higher then that game.
Really the only thing that makes Home even a look at is the fact that it's free minus the extra clothes, extra accessories, extra furniture, clubhouses and everything else Sony is pulling a Microsoft on us with.
Home is alright and all for a beta, but it's not something I see myself engaging into often. I agree with Capn Droid, focus on LBP.
But still, it does make your post look stupid FB.
The thing I like about Home is that it's optional, therefor it will never be annoying. And even if it's not your thing, you get curious on occasions and you can just hit the XMB -> Home button.
I know I do it every evening just to look around, meet others, chat a bit and play pool/drafts/chess if I have the time. Maybe I'll do it more often and longer when my friendslist is a bit longer.
At least the wii has some kind of something like that, Wii Messaging to Email Adresses, Cell Phones, or Other Wii Consloes, and the WiiSpeak Channel. Best of all Animal Crossing City Folk. I played it on WiFi last night. It was Sweeeeeet
