When God of War debuted on the PS2, it wowed audiences with amazing battles and intense gameplay that redefined the button-mashing action genre. Later on, God of War 2 followed up on this success, but in the process improving everything, and constructing an even more enjoyable experience to gamers. Even the PSP iteration, Chains of Olympus, showed us what handhelds were capable of. Every time God of War has graced the consoles, it has simply amazed.

Now Santa Monica Studios are hard at work on the groundbreaking finale to the God of War series, God of War 3. Boasting absolute top-of-the-line graphics and vicious new gameplay, Santa Monica are willing to make what we all know will be a successful attempt at refilling the shoes left behind by previous God of War games. Following the game's gameplay premiere on SpikeTV's VGAs, the developer sheds some more light on the game.

Set in the realm of Greek mythology, God of War 3 is a single-player game that allows players to take on the climatic role of the ex-Spartan warrior, Kratos, as he treads through the intimidating heights of Mt. Olympus and the dark depths of Hell once more to seek revenge on those who have betrayed him. Armed with double-chained blades, Kratos must take on mythology's darkest creatures while solving intricate puzzles throughout his merciless quest to destroy Olympus.

    I just hope that the final game looks like what Jaffe said, because that VGA trailer was less than a yawn. It looked like GOWII.

    The first game-play trailer was unveiled last night at the Spike TV Video Game Awards in Los Angeles, showcasing the game's beautiful cinematography and its groundbreaking depth of scale that is four times larger than its predecessor on the PlayStation2 computer entertainment system, God of War2.
    Wow, and hear I see many people claiming it looked like God of War 2.

    Sorry even I can tell those graphics are nothing the PS2 version can make. I have no doubt the final game will be epic.

    I mean that right there just gives me goose bumps on what the final build will be.

    Nothing much, tbh.

    And FB, that trailer does look a lot like GoW2, only slightly better. I downloaded it onto my PS3, watched it on HD, but still wasn't exactly overwhelmed by the graphics.

    And before anyone says it, I am well aware that this is far from the final build, and that the finished game will look great.

      Anyone saying it looks amazing or that it doesn't look like GOWII is lying to themselves or just looking through a hype filter. The graphics were nowhere near up to standard. David Jaffe said that the build he saw is the best looking console game, period; Better looking than Killzone, better than Gears 2, better than everything. Did that trailer show that? Of course it didn't. At the very beginning, with the closeup on Kratos, the texture looked horrible, there was no detail in his face, and his ear didn't even look 3D. It looked like a last gen, flat texture. I advise anyone who says it doesn't look 'as good' as GOWII to go play it again.

        Meh, FB just can't stand it when hes wrong, thats all.

        This games just starting to get more and more hyped and the crowds are just wallowing in the hype and not looking at the facts ; ;

        I watched the trailer myself, it didn't look like groundbreaking material. I mean i'll buy the game but it just looks like GOWII with new weapons.

          From past experience, the hype might end up killing the game.

        Anyone who has problems seeing the better graphics then the PS2 GoW2 might need to play the game again. It has very distinguished upgrades. I for one noticed that. Everyone was orgasming over the E3 trailer of this game and yet this trailer version, while awesome according to Jaffe which is the only opinion who has weight, has better graphics then that, and for some reason people are trashing it. Wow a bunch of hypocrites.

        z fighter then you seriously missed the detail. Pannest saw this trailer, as did I on HD and we both saw the graphics and the very good quality. Anyone who sitting here thinking that trailer was going to be what Jaffe saw, even though I submitted a video blog from Jaffe stating other wise, or amazing graphics in this early stage is kidding themselves. That trailer main purpose was combat/gameplay. That's it.

    HD has nothing to do with it, and I wish people all over the net would stop saying watch this or that in HD, and then decide how it looks. "HD" refers to resolution. HD does not improve the graphical output of a gaming console. Everyone was excited for the E3 trailer just because it was the first trailer for the game, BUT IT WAS CGI. It has nothing to do with the gameplay trailer from the VGA. Where did Jaffe say this trailer has better graphics than the E3 trailer? He actually said that the VGA trailer was an old build and was not what he saw at Santa Monica Studios. If you're so confident in these great graphics you saw, then what is your response to what I said above about the closeup on Kratos? Do you still say that God of War is Ready at Dawn's game?
