The defence attorney for Daniel Petric, the 17-year-old who shot his mother to death and injured his father, has blamed the kid's Halo 3 addiction for the attack ...

The case against 17-year-old Daniel Petric, who is accused of killing his mother and shooting his father in the head, could be in the hands of a judge today to decide on a verdict.

Petric's lawyers put on a very short defense Tuesday - a handful of friends, family and other character witnesses. They based their defense on what they described as Petric's video-game addiction.

His father was shot in the head and survived able to testify? Truly that is a miracle.

He could have been clipped, might have only hit him on the side of the head.

GG, I don't think I read in there that they blamed the game for the shooting. I know the title makes for a more interesting article and makes people want to read it, but . . . really it'll just start all sorts of "Oh they're attacking video games again! Woe is us!" type of stuff.

But you said it in your preview yourself . . . the addiction is the issue. Not the game. The addiction!

This is when intervention would have been necessary. It's a shame that the kid (yes--kid even at 17 years old) did that. Then apparently planned to make it look like a murder suicide? That shows a bit of non-remorse, and even some cognitive ability. There goes leniency. At least, honestly, I hope.

Glad the dad is recovering. I've seen people shot in the head and survived and made full recoveries before. Not as uncommon as some might think.

Sorry about that. I changed the title. To be honest, I was having an absolute bitch of a time finding a good way to word it.

Lol, Final, his grammar is correct. Besides, it doesn't really matter...

Now that you mention it, though, I didn't know parents was a singular noun, and who didn't know that both parents were killed?

      Fixed.

So, basically, what he's saying is that he wasn't mentally strong enough to control himself after his parents took away a game he was "addicted" to. That doesn't change anything. It isn't a defense at all, it just means he's a weak, twisted little kid.
