This is absolutely stunning, my jaw almost dropped after I read which screenshot was which. I actually though that the real life photo was the PS3 screen and vice versa, the PS3 was the real life photo. Although, now that I take a third look at it, notice how in the HD version the wheels aren't even spinning yet the background is blurred as if the car is moving.

See the source for the much larger / better image.

Nice. Just goes to show how beefed up graphics are nowadays. I sure had to take a closer look to know which one was which.

I can't imagine how enhanced graphics would be in 10 years. Took me a while to tell real life from PS3's, too.

Amazing screens. Now if they only can get those graphics on to a FPS.

"notice how in the HD version the wheels aren't even spinning yet the background is blurred as if the car is moving."

You know that if you take a camera and set it to an extremely fast shutter speed it would capture a real life car like that as well? As if it were standing still amongst a moving background?

Since the screen shot was probably taken by Polyphony Digital themselves through their Photo mode as seen in Gran Turismo 4, that is probably why it looks like that.

Because the wheels definitely move and have motion blur.

oh, was not aware of this. I was only thinking that because in the actual photo the wheels are blurred in motion.

Back years ago playing something like the snes I never thought we'd see games that were so real you can't really tell the difference. Very impressive.

I always say that rather than trying to make gaming and animated graphics more "realistic" we should be striving to make it more detailed. The two may seem to have convergent goals (the pursuit of one results in the achievement of the other) and ultimately that's what game developers are striving for, but I think its amusing how everyone wants things more "realistic". I think it would be mighty boring to play a game where it was photorealistic vs "gaming realistic" (ie sharper textures, ridiculously fancy textured surfaces and designs etc). I mean how interesting is your average hospital corridor versus a highly detailed corridor in a game?

The biggest thing is lighting, most games now could look almost completely real if they had the lighting systems like Crysis does. And if all games had more realistic and complicated lighting then they would easily be able to look way more realistic but retain that video game feel.

I was actually just playing the demo of this at my friends house about two hours ago. He has a 30 or 40 inch HDTV, the graphics were pretty crazy.
