It has recently been revealed that Japan's "Empress of Pop" Ayumi Hamasaki will be singing the theme song "Rule" for the upcoming Dragonball movie. While it might gain some major ticket sales in Japan, it's a rather odd move for international audiences.
"Rule" will be Hamasaki's 46th single, and will be released in early 2009.

Update: Here is the song:

The Sports Nippon newspaper reports that popular musical artist Ayumi Hamasaki will sing the "Rule" theme song for James Wong and Twentieth Century Fox's live-action Dragonball: Evolution film adaptation of Akira Toriyama's Dragonball manga. Fox plans to use the song as the movie's theme in over 60 countries around the world. The up-tempo rock number will be released in 2009.

Hamasaki commented, "Dragonball is one of the anime that I've liked for a long time. I look forward to having the Dragonball world embraced by every country." Hamasaki also sang theme songs for Inuyasha and SHINOBI.

As much as I love Ayumi, I must admit that it's just ... bizarre that she was chosen to sing the Dragonball theme song. Sure she'll rake in the ticket sales in Japan, but apart from that, I can't see why she was chosen. There are plenty of rock bands/singers who are far more suited to sing a rock theme for Dragonball.

It's a shame the movie is destined to suck either way.

Haven't really heard of the singer, but it's not like it matters.. Like Cruxis said, the movie is going to suck no matter what.

You guys should at least give the movie a chance, you guys say it will suck, but none of you have seen it yet.

Basically what I'm trying to say is, give it a chance, you may be surprised.

Why would a die hard DBZ fan like myself and others give a DB movie like this a chance when it's horrific and a MK clone? Sorry, DBZ is an anime and manga for a reason. Any anime/Manga that has turned into a live action movie in history has always failed. Street Fighter Movie with Van Damme looks awesome then this crap. The only people who would find this cool are non fans anyway.

Somehow I doubt it will be anywhere near as EPIC as seiyuu Aya Hirano's stirring rendition of DBZ's OP. SPARKING!!!
