Some very interesting stuff that you can do with just 16 PS3's. Astrophysicist's used a cluster of PS3's to help solve a mystery involving black holes. They also said of how much cheaper it is to run experiments with PS3's then other supercomputers. Now don't get any ideas to go run off running test of your own.

Newswise — Using only the computing power of 16 Sony Playstation 3 gaming consoles, scientists at The University of Alabama in Huntsville and the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, have solved a mystery about the speed at which vibrating black holes stop vibrating.

It may be the first time this kind of research has been conducted exclusively on a PS3 cluster: A related 2007 UMass Dartmouth/UAHuntsville project using a smaller PS3 cluster also used a "traditional" supercomputer to run its simulations.

I can see the jokes now: "PS3 does everything from play Blu-Ray to solving Black Holes. Only thing it can't do? Play games."

      That's a pretty good one Red 9.

It's almost as funny as BANDITO ATTACK's comment.

Its keeping them exclusive that it can't do.

Of course it can play games, and yes it can keep exclusives (ie 1st party and others such as ND and Insomniac-built games). I was saying fanboys could use this as another joke.

Any post that has the words "PS3 sucks" gets thumbs up, it seems.

Red, it was more the case that BANDITO made a funny comment. I don't care that it was about the PS3 sucking, because the tie in with black holes and that was absolutely genius. I love my PS3 but if you can't enjoy a good laugh at it's expense what's the point.

BlackLabel you confused your view of laughter with others. I personally didn't like the comment. While I can see why he said it and why people gave him 14 thumbs up, I wasn't laughing at it.
