Top 5 Sonic Games

OXCGN writer looks at the future of graphic between the top two heavy-hitters, the PS3 and the Xbox 360.
The former coming into its stride in 2009 will no doubt push Xbox 360 to doing more tweaks in that area, but he asks the question, will it really matter ? Isn't "gameplay" the thing "gamers" look for ?!
Makes for some interesting reading and discussion. So slip on over and check it out.
The Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 have been locked in a deadly battle for graphical supremacy since their respective launches. The multi-platform games have been an interesting aspect of the current graphical arms race, with video comparisons online grabbing a lot of attention and comment.
Despite the PS3s much talked about processing power superiority, the 360 versions have managed to hold their own and often have the ability to outshine their PS3 counterparts.
Even though exclusive titles are said to be the true indication of a consoles graphical prowess, upcoming games like Resident Evil 5 have arguably some of the most intense visuals despite the multi-platform issue. It is becoming more apparent that when the Xbox is the lead platform, developers have more trouble porting it to Sonys console, but when that situation is reversed, both versions seem to reap the benefits, which is an interesting turn of events.

2) No, it won't matter. I'm more worried about whether or not the games play well.
I'm not worried either though, Gameplay > Graphics any day
PS3 is already surpassing the level of what the 360 is capable of, there's no doubt of that. But what does that matter is the gameplay is crap? That's always what is more important.
Example, all those comparison vids between 360 and PS3 games -- what's the point, really? If people rely so much on graphics, the devs may think it's okay to skimp in other areas, sacrificing gameplay, story, etc. for a pretty game.
The comparisons are for the most part useless, because if a game is multiplatform then chances are it'll be equal, the same game regardless of what console it's on. It's not true for all games though. DMC4 for example, had some noticeable differences between the versions, and I went with the PS3 thanks to the comparison.
I think Developors should focus on graphics but during the final stages of the game.
like what many said whats the point in graphics if the game is furiating or boring??
*shudders at the thought of some 360/PS3 balance board peripheral
Most of my favourite games are ones with bad graphics when compared to todays, games such as Final fantasy 6, Chrono Trigger, Streets of Rage and the original sonic the hedgehog.
As far as i can tell, the PS3 and 360 are on par with each other graphics wise, and probably will be next year except for a few titles, but hey, thats just my opinion.
And FYI I'm sure Heavy Rain can be produced on the 360.
@Seeker X I agree there.
HAHAHA yea right.
Your right about Heavy Rain, I'm sure if enough time was put into it, it would look EXACTLY the same on the 360 as it does on the PS3.
Am gonna sit back now and wait for some fanboy to bust in with some bogus crap about the PS3's graphical capabilities compared to the 360's.
Just thought I oughta throw that out there
MGS4 Could be easily put onto the 360, just remove the sixaxis stuff and multi disk it. Its the same for all the other games you just mentioned, this is because the interior of both consoles are on equal levels.
If MGS say used 2 of the 7 cores available to games on the Cell then the 360 would be able to handle it.
As there both there cores are clocked at 3.2ghz.
Basically, the separate cores on the processors of both consoles are clocked at 3.2ghz.
Like on your PC.
So the tri-core processor on the 360 can do the same amount of work as 3 of the cores on the PS3's cell processor.
Thanks for clearin' that up
