A funny article on how Wii's are causing many health problems. Doctor's are even going out of their way to issue warnings regarding the system's use.....I guess the warning in the manual aren't enough.

Yes, I realize it's a Fox story....how many errors can you spot?

"There has been a 100 percent increase in patients complaining of Wii-itis," Dr. Dev Mukerjee of Broomfield Hospital, Essex, told The Sun newspaper.

As usual, FOX News states the obvious and not much else. At least they didn't blame Democrats for the injuries this time.

This is so stupid. Nobody should be saying anything to anyone. When you are playing tennis, do you let go of the racket? NO! Then why do people do so with the wii mote? I know I've never had that problem. And the only time I ever hit anybody, was because I was in a tiny place, and the person I was playing with was too stupid to listen to me when I told him to step back. We were playing Base ball.

A tennis racket isn't a slick piece of plastic. A tennis racket has a specially designed grip that is made so that it won't slip when your hands get sweaty or you swing to hard. In addition typically the types of swings you make in tennis aren't the same as a gamer would make.

The same could be said for any piece of sports equipment ever made. They are all custom made for that sport and have a grip that doesn't slip. The Wii doesn't. Honestly I was a bit surprised to find out how slick it was considering it is made to be swung around. It should have some kind of slip resistant grip on it.

Aren't the grips shipped out enough for that? In addition to the wrist slips?

People are just getting dumber and dumber with how they play their games imo. I have had mine since release and it has never so much as left my hand aside from me setting it down to take a break while playing.

Obviously not. The rubber sleeves are sold separately for more moolah.

The rubber sleeve on the Wiimote are sold with the Wii. (mine came with one).
It's beyond me how anyone can have a wiimote slip out of their hands. With the wrist-strap and the rubber-grip, it's pretty hard to drop them let alone have them fly from your hands. (unless you're flailing around like an idiot and not using the wrist-strap).

Is it really? Huh. I could have sworn they weren't part of the package.

The sleeves come with the WiiMotes. I got one with my Wii console and another sleeve with the WiiMote I bought on the side.

The sleeves were not initially sold with the console, but were added later on after numerous complaints about the controllers slipping out of hands and causing minor injuries from hitting people.

Well, thanks for resolving that issue, then. Apparently, I didn't know.

Not sure what article you were reading yugi as this one is talking about personal injuries such as muscle pulling and stuff like that.

Koloth, my Wii came with a silicon sleeve that goes over the wiimote and I've never had problems keeping a grip on it......of course the fact my Wii is never turned on helps in that matter as well

I've actually found that my grip with the WiiMote is better without that clear sleeve on it, since the Nykos batteries I use have a nice grip on the back of them. Unfortunately, I don't want my hand rubbing against the open part of the battery that connects to the recharger in order to avoid damaging it, so I use the grip anyway.

I find the silicon sleeve kind of annoying personally. I would prefer something slimmer. Like a stick on textured grip. But Yes mine came with the sleeves and the wrist strap as well. But if you don't use the sleeve and the strap breaks of course the controller is going to fly out of your hand.

As for muscle injuries I can see that too. Mario and Sonic at the Olympics(don't ask) tends to require you to do things fast enough and hard enough to cause repetative stress injuries. So I could see how people could pull or strain themselves.

I got 7.568 seconds on M&S @ Olympic Games, repeatitevly. people (epsecially FOX) are just *bleep*. Half this stuff is probably little kids ages 6-9 with their parents not watching and not putting on the Wii Strap. When I play tennis, i give short jerks unless im going for a ball waaaay out there. As for Wii fit, All thats stuff happens in Real Yoga. Wii is doing you a favor, making an almost exact replica of Yoga except Safer.

Yoga is probably one of the most dangerous excercises.

Well, then the games need to provide information both in the manual and in the game about the risk of injury involved in these activities. I doubt most people would be aware of it and certainly wouldn't expect to get tennis elbow by playing a game.

People should stop being so stupid and not lunge themselves across the room possibly breaking something then blaming it on the Wii. =/

Most patients are admitted after playing tennis or running games which involve sudden movements, resulting in tendon stretching or tearing.
The exact same injuries can be made while playing real tennis.

    quote
Another common injury is dubbed Wii-knee, blamed on the bending of the knee from the Wii-Fit game. This involves a special platform and a series of movements ranging from yoga to strength-training moves.
The exact same injuries can be made while doing real yoga.

No shit. The difference is that they're "real" and the risk is assumed.

When you're hopping and stretting your ass from sitting on the sofa for so long, it will hurt you. Wrap up for let and take some motrin, you'll be fine to play the wii some more.
