I could care less if Home succeeds or not. In it's current stage, I don't think anyone can argue it isn't that great. Does it have potential? Of course! The point is though, it is completely sad that people are buying virtual pieces of land. Did everyone not learn from the horse armor sold in Oblivion? Do not buy this stuff!

Apparently, Home has generated more revenue for Sony in its first four days than the rest of the PSN did during its entire launch week. Somewhere out there, people are actually buying furniture for their piece of sh*t Second Life knock-off that took valuable R&D away from actual videogame products.

According to Susan Panico, Sr. Director of the Playstation Network with Sony, it's a small amount of obsessives generating a lot of money: "It's a classic 80/20 model, where 20% of your customers create 80% of your income," she boasts.

Really? I've already bought a house and some decs. There's something oddly satisfying about buying and making stuff nice in a virtual home. Although, i'm kinda obsessive with things like Sims etc >.>

But obsessive enough to buy virtual land?
        /facepalm
        Jeez, guys! This is crazy.
What a waste of money. Might as well collect that money and buy a new game instead of buying that crap.

You won't lose any of your items, if you choose to waste money on them and encourage the curse of next-generation gaming that is "microtransactions" further.

    Wow.

And people say paying for XBL monthly is bad?

Except 4 dollars per month isn't.

Uh, where's the correlation between paying for an online gaming service and paying for virtual furniture?
      • 0
        Final Blade Dec 24, 08
Cause it's on a online networking application.
        • 5
          Xenctuary Dec 24, 08
That makes no sense. The Xbox Live service is required for online play on the Xbox 360. PlayStation Home isn't on the PlayStation 3.

I'm getting as pissed at you for saying it's an "online network application" as you get pissed for us saying it's a *bleep*ing game.

          Final Blade Dec 24, 08
Yea cause me telling you what Home actually is, and reminding people of it, is really annoying. If anyone actually cared to educate themselves on the application, I wouldn't have to keep repeating it. But alas, that's asking too much.

@Xenc - Home is to build a strong online community, just like XBL seems to have a strong online community. Home actually makes online play, like setting up online rooms, easier and more efficient. It improves the online play in some aspects. Paying for those aesthetics, assuming if this is true and people are paying for them, will make the application and PSN much more fluid.

Your link between the two is still weak. Buying a pixel chair has little to do with paying for an online gaming service.

@FB: just because you call it something, and everyone else calls it something else, everybody else in the world is wrong?

Well, gee, I guess I was right about the Holocaust actually being established by Australia, then, using your logic.

The reason why is because most of the stuff is cheap. I mean if you have 1.50 in your wallet, that rules out allmost all PSN games so whats is there really left to buy? And when you add oh say 15 million people with atleast 1 million of them being in the situation above, thats a lot of profit.

Plus when PSN launched (im assuming nov. 2006) there wasn't much things to buy. My guess the number of sales will increase with more people joining home and more things are being offered.

It's sad to think that people actually spend money on virtual decor.
  • 1
    blackbelt38 Dec 24, 08
well what about people who spend money on video games? wouldn't that be sad too? Driving virtual cars, shooting virtual soldiers, etc.
It's an escape from reality, if it makes people feel better "wasting" money on virtual coffee tables then go for it!

There's a difference between spending money on a game alone and spending money on a virtual chair.

        Gamesta100 Dec 25, 08
But bb has a point.I bet a lot of non gamers think we are sad for spending so much money on games so that we can pretend we are someone/something else.

What right do any of you people have to tell others they are sad for buying things within Home?

It matters not that it's cheap, the prices add up. I'd rather get Sims 3 (can't wait) where it's all virtually-earned money.

    Linkerd101 Dec 24, 08
I agree with Storm, I hate having to pay real money for a game, unless its XBL. SexboxLive is way bettar.

I CANT WAIT FOR SIMS 3 EITHER

FB makes me very sad face.

    LOL!

Wow, guys...I understand a lot of people don't like Home, but now riding on people's asses because they feel like buying stuff with their own money? Keep this up guys, half of you don't realize how *bleep*ing stupid you are all acting for no good reason.

Considering how drab the apartment space you are given is I wouldn't mind buying a few things. The problem is I'm not willing to pay the prices they are asking for most of this stuff.

Seriously a couch for $2? 50 cents for a decorative set of samurai swords? If these things had some sort of functional purpose maybe. If they cost a fifth of what they are asking certainly. I would pay a dime for the samurai swords, maybe. I might pay 40 cents for a nicer couch, if I spent more than 15 minutes a month playing with it anyway. But the asking prices are ridiculous.

      Big A2 Dec 25, 08
You really shouldn't be paying anything for that crap.

Everything in the needs to be bought with virtual money, it just doesn't make sense why people would pay ANYTHING for virtual furniture.

        Koloth Dec 25, 08
Well, that's more of a personal opinion. Home from the very start was designed as a money making tool for Sony. They had no intention of creating a virtual economy. They want real money for the pleasure of showing off your virtual space.

Now I'm not against the idea in and of itself. As I have said over and over if you don't want it don't pay for it. No one is forcing you to spend money on something you don't want. The same goes for any of the DLC for any other game. Quit bitching about it this is a business and they are trying to make money. If you don't want it then don't pay for it. You are then voicing your opinion to te company that way.

But they are over charging for the stuff. It is after all just a decoration. I hardly consider $2 a micro transaction.

Jees guys. Sony aren't making people pay for this crap! I refuse to accept that buying a virtual hat will make the home experience 'more fluid'. I say kudos to Sony for realising idiots will waste money on this. You don't have to buy a virtual sofa to enjoy and utilise the advantages of home!

I did buy one shirt because I had some spare cash on my account, but I find it surprising any serious number are purchasing these things.
