Polyphony has become notorious for its long delays for their games. In an interview with import and tuner, Kazunori Yamauchi said that they are busy working on updates for Prologue and GT5 won't be out so soon, 2010 at the earliest. That is a long time to wait.

As good as Prologue is, what can we expect in the full version of GT 5?
To be honest, I haven't given a lot of thought to GT 5, so I don't have an answer. And it's too early to talk about GT 5 because we still have updates coming out for Prologue.

Is there an ETA on GT 5?
It won't be this year and nothing's scheduled for next. It may be out in 2010, but like I said, we haven't really discussed it yet.

2010 is far away, but I guess it's not all bad if they're still planning on progressively patching Gran Turismo 5: Prologue to match the same feature set as the full game.

What a silly statement . .If every developer did that, they'd simply have one game with constant update . .really . . . Your blind faith is sometimes laughable . .

Sure, not doubting the games popularity, which the developers are playing on. A typical Japanese trend actually. They believe they have all the power and fans will simply wait . .period. Much like Sony has done - in the past - not so much now. They learnt their lesson.

If Forza did that , or say Grid, Colin McRae PGR etc etc, you'd be screaming blue bloody murder, and how dare those stupid developers do that etc etc.

They need to put out a game each 2 years, which allows the a year in pre-release period to work on the future iteration, like every other normal developer does, and they SELL copies and ppl would buy the NEXT iteration at the same rate, making them more $$ and getting the same, if not more support from fans.

This is a slap in the face to any GT5 supporter, basically saying, well we don't care how much you might want it, you're not getting until we're ready, even if that takes 5 yrs . .and that 2010 is only a "rough time frame. What happens if they come out mid 2010 and say . . well, we've had to adb=vance the game as the PS3 has had advances (or Sony has put the PS4 out) so we have to re-work the game or do more to it.

See what I mean.No company, developers or even design studio can simply put off the product until it's perfect, there's no such thing as perfect or uptodate. It willno sooner go into pre-release lock down, several weeks before suggested release, and they'll decide to put more in it.

Developers get to a stage where they can no longer put more in the current edition/iteration. They must put those advances and assets aside and asign a smaller team to work on the next iteration, while the current team finalises the current release game.

This is how ALL developers do their games, which is whay GRAW, Rainbow Six, are well under way now, (released 2009) and COD6 has been in production for well over 8-10 months now, even though COD5 was only released a little while ago, irrespective of the development house doing the task.

Polyphony think they are the gods gift to racing genre', bar none, and it will cost them dearly.

Polyphony have always taken their time, i mean they are not the only developer that does this Remedy are also rather controversial in their handling of products. They will only release a game when they want it released, this is when the game is as perfect as their vision. Max Payne, Max Payne 2 showed that time was worth the wait.

Polyphony also show that it's worth the wait i mean Gran Turismo 5 is not a small project, each car in Gran Turismo 5 is the same polygon count as 5 cars in Project Gotham Racing 4, thats a lot of detail and each car takes a design team 6 months of meticulous crafting. This game once released will be as close to perfect as a racing game has ever gotten. We are lucky they even gave us a prologue to test the basic gameplay and sample the graphics, other developers wouldn't i mean Square Enix has kept gamers waiting 5 years for Final Fantasy XIII and not even a sample demo or anything.

PS. I apologise if it doesn't make a whole lot of sense it's Christmas Eve/Day and i've been drinking with a few friends, i'm not in intellectual mode. It took me like 20 minutes to type this correcting spelling mistakes.

As far as I understand the only difference between Prologue and the full Gran Turismo 5 game upon its release will be the number of cars and the number of tracks. Sony will then release an "upgrade" package on the PlayStation Store which will let you download these additional cars and tracks at a price that offsets the purchase of Prologue. The price of Prologue plus the upgrade package should be equal to that of the full game itself. This means you effectively get a solid and playable "work in progress" by purchasing Prologue, with the option to later upgrade to the full game.

It's a strange way to approach game development, but I don't see any problem with it. They're not short changing us or ripping us off.

It's also important to note that any development time spent on Prologue is not wasted, since that same programming will be in the full game anyway. In this sense, Prologue cannot be the cause of delays for the full release. Any delays that are occuring would occur regardless of whether Prologue is being updated or not.

Why should they feed Prologue if it's just a preview of GT5??? Why make it equal to GT5 if it's only a preview??? *bleep* GT5 if you want Gran Turismo anytime this decade, ya might as well get GT4, cause by the time this releases, and I can guarantee it won't be 2010, there'll be PS4s abound...

Polyphony, you are idiots. Prologue doesn't need updates.

110% agreed RED . . bloody idiots actually, if any other dev house did that for their games, we'd have continual "updates' and no real advancements on each game . . Basically, WHEN - GT5 comes around, the Updates on Prologue will mean the final game will be basically little different to Prologue . .so why have the finished game . .honestly

That's my whole point. If you really want to get people to want the game, don't update GT5 Prologue; get them wanting MORE. In which case, you no longer have to set aside time for Prologue, and you can focus on getting GT5 done, and getting it out earlier.

Like you mentioned, I'm not liking their mindset of themselves being developer Gods, and only releasing a game when it's absolutely perfect. If every game did that, not only would there be no games on the shelves, but they'd constantly be saying "Oh, we're going to delay it because after we delayed it last time, we fell behind today's trends, and now we have to update it again to suit today's needs." They keep doing that and the game will never see shelves.

As I said, this game will likely not release before the PS4 comes out. Because if their rouch release timeframe is "at least" 2010, you can count on the fact that they'll delay every last second of it. I don't understand why they'd update Prologue; you update it too much, it's almost like the final game. When the final game releases, nobody will want it because Prologue suits them just fine. Thusly, GT5's sales will plummet, hurting Polyphony.

        Bloody idiots indeed.

Try March 2011. Polyphony seems to have their head too far up their ass to care.

I'm guessing it's the hate train, it's been going on for while. Trying to be cool. I think everyone bashing Polyphony needs to get off the PC and take a walk. Cause it appears to me you're not in the right frame of mind here. I also agree with Xenc and BlackLabel here.

And for a good reason. PD should just focus on the real deal, instead of updating Prologue and this is coming from someone who has GT5P.

Man, they are too cocky to even care about what others think. They go with the attitude of "We made hell a lot of money till now, we will release this game whenever we will feel like it. For now, play this *bleep* preview, my little slave monkeys".

It won't be out by 2010. At this rate, you'd be lucky to get a copy before you'll need to buy a PS4.

Haha, its like EPIC just saying 'Instead of releasing Gears of War 2, We'll just keep patching Gears of War! =D' Then they throw up a big middle finger to all the customers.

Didn't GT4 come out in 2004 or 2003? That is a long wait for a game like that. I bet there are going to be loads of DLC where you can buy new cars from it.

The point I was making was that why should Polyphony update Prologue? Why should the preview be updated to match the final? If they did that, nobody would want GT5 because Prologue has been updated so many times.

TBH they should've released GT:P and just forgotten about it whilst they continued GT5.
