So this crazy guy named Jack Thompson gets disbarred, and before the year is over he's already back in the game. Sort of.

Apparently, Thompson has purchased a handful of Take 2 Interactive stock and plans to dethrone Strauss Zelnick, current executive chairmen of Take 2. Yes, I know it sounds like a load of crock, but this IS Jack Thompson we're talking about.

You know how bugs have this annoying habit of coming back no matter how much time and effort you put into killing them? Former attorney Jack Thompson is kind of like that.

Though finally disbarred earlier this year, Thompson is undaunted and intends to continue his reign of annoyance, unable to let go of whatever grudge he holds against Take 2 Interactive. In a recent email, he announced plans to lead a shareholder coup to oust Take 2 executive chairman Strauss Zelnick from his position...

i hope he knows that no one but uninformed mothers will help his cause, shareholders know that without Zelnick as chairman they lose out or more then just stocks.

will this guy ever give up? I will love for the day where gamers tie rope to each of his limbs and play tug of war with the idiot....funnily enough that isn't influence from video games either...my violence is influenced from idiots like him making me want to imagine the most painful torture I could inflict on him

Just shut the *bleep* up, Thompson. Nobody gives a shit about your opinion.

Go back to the courtroom and do some lawyer stuff. Oh, wait a minute ...

I think you have to admire his determination, despite the fact he's overly zealous toward a wrong cause.

I think we all felt that him getting disbarred wouldn't be enough.

So if we nuked him, he wouldn't die ?

Damn, there goes my idea for getting rid of him.

Ah, the sad truth about cockroaches.
Anyway, this guy seriously needs to get rid of there dream schemes of his. If he ever manages to get this done, I can imagine a new GTA game featuring a 12 year old girl busting car thieves.

You chop off the head, and it's still going to squirm around for a little while. You just have to let it starve.

Likewise, chop off this guy's job, and he's still going to find a way around it all. All we have to do is wait until he's all out of substance/excuses.

I wouldn't worry about it. Even at $7 a share Thompson would have to spend several hundred grand to get a controlling share. At best he could be a minor annoyance at the share holder meetings. And if he gets out of hand as he no doubt will they can simply eject him from the meeting. There are rules that have to be obeyed at these meetings. Just because you buy stock doesn't give you carte blanche.

So you plan on taking them down by buying their products...... sounds like a plan!
    • 0
      Koloth Dec 27, 08
Not products. Buying shares is actually buying ownership in the company. JT actually owns whatever percentage of shares he could afford to buy in the company. Probably less than .01 percent.

Cut his ass, he has no idea how games affect children. I often find myself coming up with ways to buy large shares of shrimp companies because I'm allergic and want to rid the world of them all.

He needs to let this campaign die because it's not really true how we kill cause of gaes. Geez.

What a dick. I cant believe anyone could get worked up so much about a game. Just get over yourself man. Its a disc with pictures on it, calm down. Its not the apocalypse.

haha, This is actually a bit funny. Man, at least he's a little smart about it and isn't simply going around bad-mouthing the company.

Ah well, people shouldn't really be so angry with him though. I mean, if he has a good point and is correct then he'll win. If he doesn't, as nearly all gamers say and hate him for, then he'll lose yet again. Nothing to worry about, unless he's right.

In any point, I do believe some/many gamers have become Jack Thompson obsessive! It's almost like . . . well when he's not in the news, they mention his name. When he's in the news, they're all over him. It's almost like ol Jack got what he wanted deep down: fame.

Hey, it's like what I always say. If Jack Thompson falls off the face of the planet, some other psycho is just gonna take his place later. Better have an idiot like this guy assaulting the game industry than... I dunno, someone with clout.

        HisServant77 Dec 27, 08
I personally don't know much about Jack. I hardly followed any news about him because to me, he's not really important or any type of threat to gaming. But like you said, yes it's better to have him at it than someone who would actually have some wisdom about it all! Jack seems to be like a lonely guy whose going about his ideas in ALL the wrong ways haha

After taking a semester of Psychology, I feel that I have some insight into how his mind works. It seems as though losing in video games, or just games rather judging by his age, he has come to hate them in his adulthood and his ego has sworn vengeance against them. Just a hunch.

so what does he plan to do *if* he overthrows the head guy? shut down the company or have them stop making mature games? ok, then Take Two stocks drops and he loses a chunk of money. good game, JT!

      Slumpy monkey Dec 28, 08
Its also pretty stupid of him to assume it will work.

Most likely a very large chunk of the work force will leave and open up a new studio.

      Koloth Dec 28, 08
Well even assuming he could oust the CEO they would simply hire another one who would do much the same thing. Take 2 is never going to let go of Rockstar so JT is fighting a losing battle on that front. If anything the new CEO would just revitalize the company and JT would make a tidy bit of cash off the deal. Or the company will fold and he will lose a bundle and Rockstar will be picked up by EA or someone.

R* actually owns T2 not the other way around. Since T2 just agreed to a 2 year deal with R*. And I don't think they would sit by and allow JT to do anything against T2.

While I have to check into it I highly doubt the developer owns the publishing house. If R* had the money to own Take 2 then they wouldn't need Take 2 at all since they could afford to publish their own games.

And with just two second of research proof to back up my point.

          quote
As expected by many financial analysts, Take Two Interactive announced today a new agreement with the key members of their Rockstar Games label. The new agreement, which now expires on Jan. 31, 2012, keeps Sam Houser, Dan Houser and Leslie Benzies along with other members of the Grand Theft Auto teams at Take Two. In addition, the agreement includes the creation of a new company by members of Rockstar that will create new games that will be published by Take Two.

As far as GTA is concern, R* gets the most profits from the sales. IIRC R* gained at least 350 million of the 600 million GTA4 produced, if not 400. I'll have to ask Chiro but I'm pretty sure R* is higher up than T2.

          Slumpy monkey Dec 28, 08
          How can they be higher?

          More money =/= Higher
        • 2
          Koloth Dec 28, 08
Frankly it wouldn't matter if Rockstar does make more money off that one game anyway. T2 is a publisher of MANY games from MANY developers. While R* and GTA are certainly the biggest it's not the only one. So T2 would still make more money than R* from its other properties.

On top of that as I said before the developer can't own the publisher. That just doesn't make any sort of sense. That would be like an Author owning a publisher. It just doesn't work that way. Rockstar might get more leeway than most developers because of their relationship with T2 but they aren't in charge or higher up the food chain. T2 is in charge.

Seriously, when is Jack going to give up? Half of America hates him, the other half thinks he's an idiot and he's getting nowhere with his so called "campaigns". Time to back out and cut your losses Jacky.

      HisServant77 Dec 29, 08
I don't know . . . I think it's more like 20% of America hates him, 20% Agree with him, and 60% just don't care about him, or else don't know him.

one thing i dont get, is in the pic up top, why does he have GTA4 up next to his face, and he's SMILING? is he secretly enjoying the game and doesnt want to lose face, or is that smirk of his something to say "I plan to royally *bleep* up Take 2/Rockstar so say goodbye, GTA!!"
    • 0
      HisServant77 Dec 29, 08
I think that pic was for a while back when he actually bought the game, to prove that he checked into the game instead of just bashing it without even playing it to give it a chance.
