Yet another solid Good old Games release -- as some predicted with the recent free downloads of Revolution Software's Beneath a Steel Sky and Lure of the Temptress, the cult favourite Broken Sword series (from the same developer/publisher) has made its way to the digital distribution service.

Broken Sword 2: The Smoking Mirror is the first to arrive, with the rest anticipated at a future date (as of now, only Broken Sword 3: The Sleeping Dragon is announced).

Both are priced at $5.99. As always the games are DRM-free!

The Broken Sword series is constantly placed on the list of best games ever written and BS2: The Smoking Mirror is no exception. Yet another point-and-click game, this time a bit more serious one, which doesn't necessarily mean there's no humor involved. The game features an absorbing plot and cartoon-style graphics with beautiful, hand-drawn backgrounds. You start the game as George Stobbart, an adventurer who finds himself tied to a chair with a poisonous spider lurking in the room, right after witnessing his friend, Nico, being kidnapped. After that the suspense only escalates, right until the end.

      Thought you might like that.
I'm definitely getting them. Your fault, too!

      Press release just showed up:

      quote
“The Broken Sword series is another great addition to our ever growing games catalogue. The games offer beautiful graphics and, most of all, great stories that will keep you glued to your computer for hours,” said Adam Oldakowski, Managing Director of GOG.com. “We're very happy to welcome Revolution Software to our site. We're grateful they agreed to add their freeware games to our catalogue – which have done very well – and I believe that the Broken Sword series will be as popular on GOG.com as the two free games.”

chautemoc, you will not regret it. I promise you now, that in the right mindset and patience for the storyline and plot, you will appreciate the series.

Oh, its also bends the mind a little. Took me a year to pass the first one, but I was like 9 years old then lol. Still...

Play number 1 first! 3D graphics ruined number 3 and 4, however they still hold up fairly well.

    What's this game about?
I'm all in for free games, but I have never played or even heard of it before. What kind of game is it?

These two aren't free, but a couple other somewhat similar ones from the same developer are. Anyway, Killosity's article about the series is a good place to start, honestly.
You can also click the profile pages above for more info/screens and stuff on the games -- that's what they're there for.

Sold Out software have Broken Sword I and II bundled together for 10 dollars I think. Or the Broken Sword Trilogy has the first 3 games on one disc for gamers to enjoy.
