That's right, Illinois has been making their New Year resolutions and one of them is going to affect the Illinois gaming community. They're taking a big crackdown on alcohol, which includes alcopops not being allowed to be displayed in any video games!

Is this taking it a little too far when blaming video games?

In addition, alcopop beverages can’t be displayed in any video game, theater or live performance where the audience is primarily made up of children.

Even if the audience is made up mostly of kids, that's just utterly stupid.

I'm assuming alcopops are alcoholic drinks that taste like soda?

Pretty much. They're premixed drinks and thus quite a few of them have soda mixed in with them, but they aren't just limited to soda.

More or less yes. They taste just like a fruit fizzy drink but actually contain quite a high level of alcohol... and because of the delicious but secret mix, it sells very well.

Lol, "high-level of alcohol" they average around 1.5 units a bottle.

Although it may be different in America.

Depends where and what you buy. I know where I live, East Coast of Australia, you can get some with quite a lot of vodka in it.

Pretty sure the ones I drink are relative to 4.5 standard drinks. If that's the same thing as units. Not that big of an alcohol drinker, but when I do drink I usually get drunk.

Wow. This is taking it a bit far. I've had those before, and their not that high in alcohol. (Not compared to what I usually drink ) But srsly. Wow. Banning Alcopops in video games. /Cry.

Yeah, just seems like excessive. If a kid gets a hold of Alcopop, it's their decision to drink it. I'm sure they know it's illegal for them drink it. If they get caught, their fault.

To be honest, I don't even notice the tiny little bottles when playing a game, I'm more focused shooting pedestrians or something...

Considering they've elected two corrupt governors in a row, and the CTA (Chicago Transport Authority) keeps signing ad deals with Take 2 only to withdraw the ads earlier than specified by contract (bad publicity?), I have some trouble taking Illinois seriously at all.

Alcopops... I'm pretty sure this was what Soda Popinski kept drinking during my epic bouts against him.

I think the argument here is to ban their display in videogames which can be (legally) sold to minors. I don't think they want to ban it in 18-rated games; just ones that children can play.

Although, if that is their idea, then I have to ask the question - how many videogames aimed at minors actually have alcopops in them?!
