Sony and Media Molacule are smart enough not to release costumes replicating characters that Sony doesn't own. But that doesn't stop user's from trying their hardest to create their favourite characters. Well it seems like Marvel isn't' to happy with. A member from LittleBigWorkshop posted a picture of his "the Thing' character and later received an email from Marvel saying he infringed their copyright material. It seems to me like some one has their panties on too tight.

Anyone remember when Marvel hit up City of Heroes way back in 2004 for copyright infringement due to certain heroes? We sure do. That's why it's no surprise that Marvel has once again taken to the streets in order to protest and complain about costumes being infringed upon within create-happy, LittleBigPlanet. While the recent removal of certain costumes hasn't taken place yet within the game's world, it has started to pop up through online galleries.

A forum member MuffinMan71 from LittleBigWorkshop.com recently received an email revealing that one of his gallery photos happened to infringe upon Marvel's copyright for "The Thing." MuffinMan71 cleverly created a SackBoy with orange bricked skin and applied the blue swimming trunks to his character. While this wasn't an exact replica of the superhero himself, it was close enough to warrant Marvel's attention.

This is madness, surely MM and Sony cannot moderate the costumes people create using stickers? People like Marvel should see this as something they should embrace and create character packs for not hate us for our creativity.

This is Sparta! If Sony can moderate it or not is not the point, Marvel has a right to want their property to not be used by other people. Sure it's utterly lame on their part but they have the right to.

Actually Marvel will lose this one just like the suit against NCSoft and Cryptic Studios over the same issue in City of Heroes. Marvel pulls this crap every couple of years and it ends up going no where. I think Marvel just wants to flex a little muscle and see how Sony and MM will react. In the end it won't make much difference to the players. I mean I can still create an almost perfect Hulk or Wolverine in CoH, though the TOS states you're not supposed to, and LBP will end up the same as well.

The ability to create close copies of favourite characters from different media isn't really being used to market the game though, so I don't see why Marvel should care in the first place. If they are that uptight about it then shouldn't they also be going around every single website on the net - professional and otherwise - claiming copyright infringement on anything that might make so much as a mere mention of one of their properties?

I'd have thought they would have been flattered that they have such loyal fans that would want to recreate their characters.

If every company had their way like Marvel, it would render the character creation option useless.
