Sony Europe boss David Reeves said that Sony needs to start turning a profit on its PlayStation 3 system. He believes that that is the top priority for the company.

In a posting on the official UK PlayStation website, David Reeves, President of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, said that the most important thing for the PlayStation 3 moving forward is that it “starts making money.”

This is true, but Wii and PS2 are the only consoles actually making a profit at the moment, PS3 does need to start making profit, it's good enough to imo.

Hang on, you need to make money to be a successful business?

Let me just call the Department of the *bleep*ing Obvious, see if they're aware of this.

And yet despite how blatantly obvious that may be there are still people complaining that the PS3 is to expensive. All the while Sony continues to give them away.

I've known that for ages. The price is perfectly reasonable considering the package. And even more obvious is the fact Sony is just a hair away from breaking into profits. I swear, I have never seen a time when a console was doubted so constantly.

Are Sony not making a profit on the Blu-Ray aspect though? I may be wrong, but don't they get some sort of profit from each Blu-Ray disc sold?

No they don't make money on every blu-ray disc sold. Nor do they own blu-ray.

Price drop = more sales. Raising the price up won't promote sales as far as i know.

No one said anything about an increase. And more sales doesn't help you make money if your selling it for less than it cost to make. They have to bring the cost of production down a LOT before they can do a price drop and still make money.

Is making a PS3 that expensive? They might have done a wrong step even coming up with it so early.

Yes, it is that expensive. It still cost about $50 more than they sell it for. And when they released it in 06 it cost $200 more to make than they were selling it for at launch.

And it wasn't the erong step. It was part of a larger strategy to win the video format war and sell more Blu-rays. Now that that's won actually making money on the PS3 becomes the priority.

Face palm, anyone? Didn't I already address that?

Nope, because face palm is overused and annoying.

I do however agree with your sentiments (just not your wording).

Fair enough. I thought my wording was a bit more clever than actually posting one of the memes though.
