Kids steal the Darndest Things, this time, it's a 2005 Ford Taurus, A child who missed the school bus grabbed his parents car keys, and sped off in an attempt to get to school on time. Although this is bad parenting at it's best.

A 6-year-old Virginia boy who missed his bus tried to drive to school in his family's sedan — and crashed. His parents were charged with child endangerment. State police said the boy suffered only minor injuries and authorities drove him to school after he was evaluated at a local hospital for a bump on his head. He arrived shortly after lunch, Sgt. Tom Cunningham said.

Well at least they blamed the parents and not the game. But first of all what the hell is a 6 year old doing playing GTA? My kids almost 6 and I wouldn't let him play GTA.

    Misleading title is misleading.

He obviously didn't get to school, seeing as he crashed.

Sorry if you thought the title was misleading, I don't really want to give away the article just in the title. I mean, I want people to read this.

Well, of course not. You can't be a news reporter without working for FOX news. Otherwise, you deliver the message to the people without bias and absurdity.

If the game gets blamed for this, then that'll be pathetic.

What the hell kind of parents give their SIX YEAR OLD GTA?

Lets hope the local authorities give them a royal bitch slapping.

No six year old should play GTA . I also wouldn't expect a little kid like that to be that dedicated to school.

How the hell can a 6 year old even reach the pedals
    • 0
      Livewire_19 Jan 7, 09
I believe that most 2005 Ford Taurus's have power adjustable pedals installed.
But even with the closer pedals I would think it would be hard for the kid to see over the steering wheel. It's probably the reason why he crashed.

Epic Phail! @Krunal: I think he might have used stilts of a sort, high heels maybe?

Shocking really, if the traffic around his neigbourhood was dense, there could have been a pile up, and may have resulted in a few deaths. Thank god he crashed before he could do any real damage is all I can say.

This would never have happened in the UK.

He would have had to drive a manual instead of an automatic over here.

Your kidding right? It's not like parents are going to guard the car keys 24/7. Like most people, the keys typically just sit on the bench or on a holder or something. Makes it pretty easy for a kid to get them while his parents aren't looking. The article said his mother was sleeping and they didn't mention what his father was doing. By now they were probably used to the kid getting on the bus regularly and perhaps even getting breakfast himself or something so they thought that they didn't need to baby him in the morning. Yes it was probably a bad idea to give the kid GTA but I think people are jumping on the "blame the parents" bandwagon too much here.

I don't see how the parents are getting "child endangerment" charges either. It's not like they handed the kid the keys. I mean he practically stole the car. Bah whatever, least the kid is safe though but the whole thing still seems stupid.

    phowell23 Jan 7, 09
Give the kid some props, hed rather risk his life and try n drive a car to get to school on time rather than playn hooky and killen time playn GTA til his parents got home.

      StarJet Jan 8, 09
The thing is, he probably didn't know he was endangering his life.
I stand with the fact that the parents are to blame. The main thing being letting him play GTA. Sure, I also played GTA while underage, but I was 12. 6 is a different story.

The mom was home it says in the article she was still asleep. Not just bad parents but to damn lazy to get up to get your kid ready for school.

I get up make my son breakfast, help him pick out his clothes, drive him to school, and walk him to the door everyday. And I enjoy doing it. The least this mom could have done is make sure he gets on the bus before going back to bed.

I get the feeling he doesn't have the most functional family. The mother is 26, and his father is 40 years old, and to me that raises a few alarms. They also don't share the same surname in the article.

That child is adorable though, despite his mischief. He wanted to get to school on time as not to miss PE and breakfast! I want to take him home and love him lots.

I read this yesterday but I don't recall GTA being involved.

Well there blaming the parents which is good since a six year old shouldn't be playing GTA.....infact,

EVERY PERSON UNDER THE AGE OF 18 WHO DID SOMETHING STUPID AND THE MEDIA BLAMES GTA SHOULD SHUT IT SINCE THERE UNDER 18 AND SHOULDN'T BE PLAYING THE GAME IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!!!1!!11!!111

They all need a good bitch slap really. Every single idiot who blames games or plays games that they aren't meant to be playing and does something stupid because of it (so they say) and the idiots in the media who jump on it and all the so called scientists who "research it". They ALL need just a really good whack.

I'm 14 and have been playing GTA since I was about 10. I've never been influenced by the game in any bad ways, nor do I plan to. Although 6 is almost always too young to play Grand Theft Auto, just because you are younger than 17 doesn't necessarily mean you shouldn't play the game or that parents are necessarily wrong for allowing you to. Parents are usually able to tell when their kids are mature enough to play M-rated games.

I guess everyone's to blame, except the police. The parents for giving a kid GTA and the kid, who wanted to drive to school.

    ...nothing to do with GTA.
just because he took his parents car, does not mean he learned from a video game.
believe it or not, not all criminals play GTA.

HEY, you can't cite GTA without adding MONSTER TRUCK JAMS as well.

But yeah, he said "he learned to drive" by playing the above games.

Where exactly were the parents? Who was the kid left home with?

Just out of my own interest, WHAT ON EARTH WAS A 6 YEAR OLD PLAYING GTA FOR! ~I'm assuming this kid has an older sibling with the game because i can't imagine what kind of ridiculous bad parents would buy thier child Grand Theft Auto!!! I mean when i was younger i played the first version at my 18 done-nothing-with-his-life cousins back-garden house. But having it at your OWN house?! Just insane.

And Raijin1999 is right, who WAS he left at home with?! Also, how on earth could the kid know which pedal is which, how he reached the keys from where ever they were (I'm assuming they were on the kitchen top) and more importantly, to the fact how did he know which pedal is which, but HOW DID HE REACH THE PEDALS?!

I suppose it could have been a nissan micra.

Somebody obviously doesn't read the article. His mother was home, asleep. If you get TOLD which pedal is which, or even take any notice while sitting in the passenger seat of the car one random day then you'll know what makes you go and what makes you stop. And hello, he could always lower the seat or sit right on the edge of the seat or something to reach. Hey, he might have been a tall kid for his age. Seriously. Also, guess what. I was playing M rated games when I was 4! OMG NO! My parents must have been horrible!
