There are plenty of things that game companies want gamers to care about, mostly so the companies can line their own pockets. But do gamers really care about the pointless add-ons and random accessories that are always being released? GamesRadar lists the things gamers don't actually care about... even though you're supposed to.

Wow, videogames and the things they spawn! The industry produces everything from comics to vibrating mushrooms. You could listen to advertising, fanboys and Big Videogame’s secret infrared mind-control to find out what’s worth your money, but you’d end up buying two of everything carried by your local Gamestop and half of Amazon.com. So how much of it is really worth paying attention to?

Most of the time, though, the latest advertisement and cool-looking package is not even close to what’s actually good. These are a few of the worst offenders - the games, accessories and debates that merit no attention at all, and yet they never leave us alone.

Okay, I disagree with most of that article. A lot of it came off as whining on their part about how they don't care about anything. Good for them, I look forward to seeing what the WiiMotion Plus can do for controls. The re-releases of arcade games lets me relive childhood memories of playing the old versions at the arcades, so I do care about them. Some of those cardboard covers on games are a waste of time when they essentially show the same thing, but the PC ones normally open up a flap and show a lot of cool info on games and screenshots. Downloadable content adds longevity to a game, so them not caring about it... well I don't give a shit why they don't care about anything, it's their problem. Them saying they don't care to play on harder difficulties and get new maps make it sound like they love to throw their money at a game and not get the full experience of it. That article came off as nothing but a whiny blog.

Gamesradar is a joke when it comes to gaming journalism. They're like those trashy gossip magazines you see at the grocery store while you're in line checking out.

The only one that I totally agreed with was the one about the add-ons for controllers (namely the Wii-mote).

One particular one that got my attention was the 'playing through on a higher difficulty one, that is something that really depends on the game.

    Good: Wario Land 4
Why: Rather than just being the same game with major overhauls of enemies, it has several new puzzles all over that just make it worthwhile. Then you unlock a Super Hard difficulty which has even more puzzles and platforming feets for you to accomplish.

    Bad: Pokemon Stadium
Why: Let's see... You've been four times eight cups worth of Poke cup and Prime Cup, finished Petit cup and the other one, beaten all the Gym leaders and fought Mewtwo... Your prize? Instead of getting a rental Mew or Mewtwo, you get to do all that again only HARDER! Not because the enemy A.I. Has improved but because their pokemon have much higher stats!

Also on the subject of Wii peripherals, if it's a useless third-party add-on or the Zapper shell, yeah I agree, but if it's something that actually plugs in and does something then it's worth it (as long as it's not gimmicky or used for one game, like the guitar), the Motion Plus, it seems, people just don't understand, it's not fine tuning the remote, it's adding another dimension to it entirely.
