Speaking at Billboard’s “Digital Music Live” conference, Harmonix CEO (and co-founder) Alex Rigopolous has said that they would be breaking the "yearly release cycle" and thus Rock Band 3 would not be released this year.

However, Rigopolous says that we won’t be seeing Rock Band 3 this year as the team is making “a choice to break out of the annual release cycle for Rock Band this year.” He explained further stating, “[This is] partly because the annual cycle places limits on the choices you can make as a developer. We’re trying to take a long term view.”

Of course that sounds a bit too much like PR BS, but this Harmonix and they’re cool dudes. Thus Rigopolous admits that it’s also because the company wants to put as much attention as possible on their new Beatles game, an effort I can’t applaud more. The only people who could really have a problem with this whole delay business is EA, because it’s less money for them, but Rigopolous says not worry. “Well, I’m sure they’d take [Rock Band 3] if we gave it to them, but they know how important this series is and they’re willing to give it the time it needs,” he said.

Works for me. RB2 is good enough for now. Plus it's not like the past when you were stuck with whatever songs were on the disk. We have plenty enough music to work on.

Agree 100%. Its overkill when you release a new one every year, then you end up looking like Activison. No, as the article stated, I'd rather them put all there efforts into the Beatles game instead of it being just a side project.

It's good not to overkill it.
Will probably just mean RB3 will be all the better for the break.

    YES!!! THANK YOU GOD!!!

Did we really need RB2? Couldn't they have just released some wireless drums and the rest of the songs for download?

RB2 actually adds new play modes making it worth upgrading. I would assume that RB3 would add more ways to play and what not as well. But I can certainly wait another year.

      EDIT: /headdesk
My bad, didn't know EA was the publisher... But seriously, why would it come under EA Sports?

Hmmm, could have something to do with the fact that EA is the publisher...

I'm not a fan of The Beatles, but I wouldn't say they're overrated. I mean they did a lot for music, just nothing besides "Help" has ever caught my attention.

Everything in Wii Music, of course.

There is nothing else to do anyway. When you can just buy Rock Band 2 and buy songs online, why is there a need for another game? What else would they add to it that isn't already here?
Even if we did get Rock Band 3, I wouldn't expect it until 2011.

Good. It feels like they only just released Rock Band last year. Three games in a solid year is overworking themselves.
