With Bioshock 2 yet on the horizon, 2K is thinking of more sequels, totalling upto a series of six games including the original.
2K global president Christopher Hartmann has told MCV that they could possibly do five sequels, but are not going to "cash-in" the franchise.

“For Bioshock, because it’s so story driven, the question obviously arises: how long can you do it without turning into The Matrix? The first Matrix was great, the second one was weird and the third one, you thought: ‘Who [making this] is on crack and who isn’t?’. “But, then again, look at Star Wars. It’s a fight between good and evil, just like Bioshock. If we spin it the right way and get the right twist of innovation, we can make six parts of it, as Star Wars did.

“But we have to be careful not to cash in. I won’t name the company, but there was a great racing game years ago. They brought it back year-on-year. If you look at the scores, it’s hard to believe what they’ve done to it. It’s upsetting, actually.”

Somewhat happy about this. Whilst I can never get enough of the Bioshock universe with its diverse and interesting characters and lovely art direction, I cannot help but feel that each entry in the franchise will sacrifice something, be it in gameplay mechanics or storytelling to pave a path for further sequels. Lets hope I'm wrong.

Personally I doubt they have enough story ideas to go that long but hey, maybe they can pull it off.

I'm not sure how they could pull it off either, but if they do I'd be a very happy gamer.
I'm playing BioShock now (got it for Christmas) and I absolutely love it. It's loads of fun and I'm really looking foward to BioShock 2.
I just hope that the quality doesn't decrease with the quantity... You know?

Ya I could see a trilogy working out well for them. But the 4th game? I'd say stuff is going to run out steam.

What are they going to do, a prequel? Groan.

Apparently 2 is going to be a prequel and a sequel. Its a rumour, but yeah. So I guess a prequel/sequel, then a prequel, then a sequel, than a prequel to the prequel/sequel, then a sequel to the prequel/sequel.

I think BioShock is the only game that could probably do this in this day and age. The developers don't care if the gamer has to wait 6 years between each sequel aslong as it is as epic as their vision, this wouldn't be possible for other teams as they would rush it out yearly like the game version of the Saw movies.

BioShock was a true masterpiece in every sense of the word, and I sincerely hope they can pull this off.

IMO, they should make a trilogy and then make the next game a prequel to the whole series.

So completely follow Halo then? Should Spartans and the flood be incorporated too?

Sadly it's probably the only feasible way to pull it off. Hilarious.
