Lord of the Rings Online Tops PC Charts

tekmosis | May 10, 2007 | News | PC
In a news release on Turbines website they claim Lord of the Rings Online to be the number one selling game in the US and Europe. However, no real sales figures were actually mentioned. Will this make Lord of the Rings Online a competitor for the widely ever so popular World of Warcraft? time will only tell.
WESTWOOD, MA and CHICAGO, IL – May 10, 2007 - Today, Turbine, Inc., Midway Games Inc. and Codemasters Online Gaming announced that The Lord of the Rings Online™: Shadows of Angmar™ is the #1 selling PC title across North America and Europe based on the most recent industry reports. The Lord of the Rings Online has outsold all other PC games across North America, Germany, United Kingdom and France according to data from NPD (NA), Chart-Track (UK), GfK (France) and Media Control (Germany).

In addition to soaring sales, The Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO) has been enthusiastically received by gaming critics around the globe.

It's good to see that people still like Lord Of The Rings, as I myself lost interest in it when the films ended. I'm glad it's more successful than World Of Warcraft anyway, I'll have to try this game one time.

Well, its not more successful than WoW, that I am sure of. Statistics are amazing things. You can get anything you want from them. I expect they are counting new sales since April, not total subscribers or even total sales since Jan.

Think about it, how many copies of the game did turbine sell last year?

Nice to see. I've never really tried out any of the Lord Of The Rings games, but the popularity of this game is tempting.

Yeah I am pretty sure WoW is more successful though..

    WoW is more successful.

But still interesting to see people still love Lord of the Rings this much.

The interesting stat will be the number of subscribers in 6 months. Its easy to get people to buy a new game. Its harder to keep them interested.

Is this pay-to-play? If so, the hell with this MMO, Guild Wars is free of monthly charges...and the difference is that people can play this MMO and maintain a life xD

Need to know if it's pay to play. I love LotR with a passion, so this sounds badass.
