Eidos wasn't too pleased with the sales of Tomb Raider: Underworld, which was probably in result of the series being tired and released during a time when everyone wanted to play something fun. So the company is planning on re-doing the series just as Christopher Nolan did a re-do on the Batman franchise.

The BBC reports that Eidos "is considering revising the look and play of her Tomb Raider adventures, which may see efforts to make her more female-friendly." There's no further elaboration on how they plan to make the character "female-friendly", though one would imagine they'll start by giving Lara a body that's less likely to induce poor self-esteem among women who aren't hundred-pound gymnasts with triple-F boobs.

They would be best off starting from the grassroots level figuring out what kind of person Lara Croft really is. I think a big change in background story would help her to be more edgy if she wasn't from a rich heritage. Though the biggest thing they need to learn is to look at the competition see what they are doing and copy them. As long as they don't make Lara look like a punk or whatever Crash Bandicoot is meant to be now.

Her being rich or at least fairly well off just makes sense though. A middle class person doesn't have the finances to learn the gymnastics, science, or weapon usage she employs. On top of that how would she afford to go on these adventures?

If she was poor she would be to much like Nathan Drake. Just looking for the next big score and barely scraping by on her wits alone. Her being rich though actually makes her a bit more pure I think. She isn't treature hunting for her own gain. She is doing it entirely because it is what she wants to do.

i agree with koloth, i think her heritage is an important part of her character.
what i think is wrong with Lara Croft is that she hasnt got enough supporting characters. amean lets be honest its a bit indiana jones-ish and unless they implement a strong back log of characters like her family and enemies then its just going to be another adventure game.

It would be awesome if they could get Chris Nolan to help out with the Tomb Raider series...as if that'll ever happen.

What is wrong is that there were too many shitty games made after the first few installments that her fanbase shrunk down as everyone became disinterested in the series. Its a shame too because TR Legend and Underworld are very good games, and remind myself a good bit more of the early titles.

More people need to give them a shot.

I don't think Lara needs a reboot at all. I think the character is perfectly fine in most aspects. All the series needs is for people who know how to make a good TR game to make the next installments instead of having half of the development team focusing on designing and modelling her breasts and leaving the actual game to become shite.

It's not a case of bad character, it's a case of bad game.

They should give the whole series a big rest and pour all their resources into Deus Ex 3 which is going to be awesome.

I'd have to agree with you there mate. If they spent the same energy in Deus Ex 3 for all platforms, they'd reap in more profit than concentrating on one Tomb Raider game. It has a linage that will stand the ages, and would bring in new gamers as well as old.

Lara Croft herself doesn't need to be "redone". If her appearance becomes more "female friendly", that still isn't going to make girls buy a new TR game. It's not Lara Croft that is putting people off the game ... it's everything else!

Better controls, more interesting storylines, better side-characters, more varied locations/enemies ... are all things that can be fixed up in the TR series. At the moment the games are slightly above-average, but they're certainly not good enough to make me want to pay AU$60+ to buy them. There are better options out there when it comes to Adventure games.
