Who knows why, but Microsoft is considering adding on a Blu-ray drive to the Xbox 360, and that would certainly be an upset in the console war. Is Microsoft really gonna give up on HD-DVD? But then again, that's only IF Blu-ray becomes a clear leader in disc formats.
Community site Xbox Circle has reported that during a recent interview with ITMedia, Microsoft boss Peter Moore stated that the Xbox 360 could see an add-on Blu-ray drive launched for it.
The high-definition format, already built in to the PlayStation 3, would launch for Microsoft's system if, according to Moore, it becomes the clear winner in the current DVD war.
While HD-DVD is Microsoft's preferred DVD format, Moore points out that as Xbox 360 uses an external DVD drive it allows them to adapt to whatever standard wins out.
Moore also went on to say that Microsoft would never ship future iterations of their console with a built-in drive, believing that such a move limits the gamer's choices.

It doesn't matter which format MS decides to use. People are still buying 360's to play games. The whole Media Center connectivity idea that MS fathomed fell through. The majority of gamers just want to play next gen games in HD. Replace their DVD's with an entirely new format and new HD drive? Not yet. DVD isn't that old.
