It was confirmed a while ago that Killzone 2 will not have co-op at launch of the game. But then word spread that a patch will be released later on to add online co-op. Later co-op is better then no co-op, right? Well it seems that GG isn't planning any co-op, at all! I guess there is one thing you can say Killzone 2 will lack.

Guerrilla Games has told PSU in an exclusive interview that there are currently no plans to implement co-op in Killzone 2.

"Currently there are no plans for co-op in Killzone 2," said game director, Mathijs de Jonge. "Technically it would be quite difficult to implement it for the story mode as for example the mission sections are loaded in seamlessly – no loading screens , and that would cause issues with teleporting players. Even without co-op it’s still a big game and gamers will have plenty to sink their teeth into."

I don't really mind. From what i have seen the game doesn't really allow for Co-op, sure it is squad based but the game follows Sev first and foremost the story doesn't seem equiped for someone else to play aswell.

Quite disapointed in this, you don't promise a feature and then later back out on it.

To be honest they never really promised anything, Guerilla Games hinted that they were thinking about adding Co-op and the fans ran with it turning it into fact. They obviously realised the way they have built the game made Co-op impossible, but like a good developer they focused on single player and then tried to add online features around it. This feature obviously didn't work.

I'm quite disappointed. Not even splitscreen competitive. All the competitors- like L4D, Halo, and Gears 2- all have coop campaigns, or at least some kind of splitscreen. They should've kept that in mind when they started; I'm getting tired of playing PS3 FPS's on my own.

Though to be brutally honest Gears of War 2 and Halo 3 all have pretty pathetic stories to compensate for co-op. The story always has to suffer so i am glad they have cut co-op as long as the story is intact and good.

What? Halo and GOW have good story's, Gow especially. Killzone isn't the only game for the devs to write some back info for their games.

Actually now that you think about it, any game can have a "good" story if they just pay some dude to write some back story for there game.

What? Pathetic stories? You best pull your head out your ass, because both gears and halo have great stories.

Far as i'm concerned, having to axe co-op will make this game lose buyers, as alot of people buy games so they can play them co-op on the story modes.

He's BlackLabel guys. Of course he thinks Gears and Halo have pathetic stories while Killzone 2's is good and won't sacrifice anything from the story. What gamer would want a dev to sacrifice story for gameplay anyway? A foolish one, that's who. Foolish gamer.

No co-op always hurts a game more than a bad story excuse to force it in. I've always wanted to play Call of Duty with other people and the whole reason Gears is so awesome to me is JUST because it was so fun in co-op.

It's easy to get over though when a game is great. I'm sure it'll be easy to deal with, Killzone 2 looks pretty tight.

Dude, the whole reason those games were great was because it had such great co-op. Pay attention for once, and maybe you wouldn't have GameGrep on your back for being stupid.

One thing I always find is that whenever we get a great PS3 exclusive, it's marred by the lack of inclusion of something else. 360 exclusives, in my mind, always seem to have the proper package all in one game, whereas we're always left without a certain feature or another.

Halo a good story? What are you guys smoking? Halo had a good story POTENTIAL from the first Halo until MS and Bungie decided to kill it with the next two sequels offline mode. I can't speak for Gears 2 since I didn't play it, but Halo story isn't good, it went down hill really fast after Halo 1. Face it, Halo turned into a mediocre offline mode and outstanding Multiplayer. Neither MS or Bungie cared about the story and saw the huge potential the online multiplayer had, and because of this, the story suffered since. And i'm a big Halo fan, I enjoyed the first one found it to be a revolutionary FPS game. But the sequels just didn't do the offline story justice. People don't buy Halo to play the offline mode knowing it blows, they buy it for the online experience.

As for Killzone, I couldn't give a crap about Co-Op. It's not a deciding factor in playing a FPS. For me it comes down to few things, is offline fun and has a good story and is the online just as fun if not more? And from the looks of it, killzone 2 is looking to be massive. It's a shame people base their sole purpose of games off one insignificant thing which was NEVER stated as true it would be on the game. PS3 fanboys stated it as fact and spread it like wildfire and because people bought into it, you're disappointed. I knew the whole Co-Op thing was a rumor. Which is why I didn't believe and cared for it. If they happen to patch it later on, cool, if not, doesn't matter. It doesn't make or break the experience this game will bring to PS fans.

Wtf are you on about Final, One of its main selling points was its story in the last one, and "finishing" the fight as it were. Personnaly I think the story is great and didn't go downhill, I don't see how it did.

          Final Blade Jan 15, 09
Yes of course, finish the flight. Just because it did have a story didn't make it good. The story was really weak and along with Halo 3 being a huge over-hyped game, I say the offline experience is partially the reason why it was. With some other things here and there.

Red you was a summary fine, here it is. Halo story after the first was piss poor and it wasn't great. And MS and Bungie focused too much time on Multiplayer knowing that's where the real prize of playing Halo will come. Which is why it lacked. And Basically Co-Op in Killzone 2 shouldn't make or break you from buying a great game.

The game looks to be fun anyways. No one I know enjoys playing on the PS3 anyways so co-op would've been a dead feature for me.

That's a shame, stuff like this is starting to become standard now. But it still has bots right? No.1 had bots. At least that is one thing to compensate for the lack of co-op.

That is disappointing, it should have been one of those games to break the "No Co-op" mold like most shooter games. Though I like the no-loading...especially for a game like KZ2.

Well I probably wont be buying Killzone 2 then. With all thats coming out, and whats out already, games need to compete for my purchase, and this doesnt do it any favours.

In saying that, I'm sure the game will be much like the first one - flipping awesome!

I don't think it's all that important, however it would have been nice to see it in there. I think they have enough without needing to include a co-op mode.

For those of you losing your faith in humanity over this:

THERE IS STILL SPLIT-SCREEN OFFLINE MULTIPLAYER WITH BOTS - ALL THIS MEANS IS THAT THERE IS NO STORY CO-OP!

Won't hurt me. Co-op was basically created to pass levels on harder difficulties if you can't pass them on your own. Sure, you can have fun on it as well, but considering the amount of dopey kids on online services such as PSN, you won't really have that much fun, other than laughing at what they blurt out of their ass. Not to mention most of them have absolutely no skill whatsoever, and reviving them ( if you can) would be like a *bleep*ing chore.

I'm not going to blow my load over a differing opinion, but I consider the story in Gears of War 2 to be cunningly basic to play out well alongside a hardcore action flick. I think what they developed within the story was fantastic, and I enjoy that they did not coat it with questionable plots and character development. Just because a story is drenched in stereotype and simplicity, doesn't make it pathetic though. That, we disagree on.

I'm all for differing opinions, but sometimes it's blatantly obvious someone has a differing opinion just because a game is on the 360.
