Rockstar disproves the rumor of a new Grand Theft Auto sequel/prequel to be released in late 2009; The Tokyo location suggestion is put off as a wild guess.

We checked in with the Rockstar folks this week to check out the first downloadable episode, The Lost and Damned, which is due to hit the Xbox 360 next month. A second episode for Grand Theft Auto IV owners is planned to arrive before October 31, 2009, according to parent company Take-Two Interactive, But there is "no truth" to reports that a wholly new retail game, one on par with the scope of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, will arrive before the holidays.

Goddamit. They'd BETTER put the DLC on the PStore, too.

Remember the exclusive Microsoft DLC? Remember the huge amounts of money they paid for it? Yeah, never coming to PSN, my friend.

One can always hope its a timed exclusive. Though I agree that its a long shot.

Good, i'm glad. I'd expect longer for a proper quality game. Hope they improve GTA this time round though, put the fun factor back into it. Although, despite how much everyone says GTA IV was shit, it wasn't. I had some fun whilst playing it, sure it got a bit boring, but that's probably because I played it ALL the time when I had it. I wish I hadn't traded it in.

That's the thing. I'd love it, if it weren't GTA...it's just not what I want from GTA.

Yeah I would have doubted it, I mean a considerable amount of staff would be working on the DLC and when that is released they would only have less than a year to make the full game and release it.

A GTA game hasn't been released a year after the previous one since Vice City. It's still way too early for a sequel.

They're too busy the the DLC episodes right now to put out a new game.

I hope that the next GTA game is announced a long time from now, and a very short time before it's release. There are few things that I hate more than long waits for video games.

And, yes, my life is so devoid of purpose that I obsess and complain over release dates of video games and movies...

Rockstar have to spend a hell of a lot of time to make a sequel to a game as huge and diverse as GTA IV, and we still have DLC to come. Let's just hope it comes quicker than Microsoft wants it to come to PS3.

Oh no. We have to go a year without a new GTA game. What ever shall we do?

    The longer the better.

If this were the Sega, PS1 or even PS2 era, one year would have been enough to pop out something half-way decent. During this generation of gaming, though, one year is just enough time to get some pre-alpha stuff done.

As soon as i will be able to run GTA IV i won't need a new GTA for a looooong time, so this announcement isn't really a concern for me.

I guess that the longer we wait, the better the new game will be. 2 new DLC's for GTA IV is pretty impressive though...

They could put lost and damned on ps3. remember when Sony said that San Andreas was only for ps2 but later came out on the original xbox I think that's what happened.

Yeah, not when there is a contract signed and $50 mill has been dropped on your lap...
