It’s official, one in four homes in the entire world is holding a Nintendo Wii. This may be with games which can be played for the whole family, like Super Smash Bros Brawl or Mario Kart Wii. Or because they have games targeted at all audiences. Wii Gamers aren't gunna quit now.

Five million homes now have a Nintendo Wii, the family-friendly console that has taken the video gaming industry world by storm.

The Japanese gaming giant Nintendo said it sold nearly three million Wii consoles last year, after winning over a new generation of British gamers.
It set a record for annual UK sales of a console that plugs into your TV.

That's one hell of a statistic. I think a more accurate one would be if the households actively use their Wii, or if it just collects dust. Either way, well done Nintendo.

"Five Million homes now have a Nintendo Wii."

WTF. There are way more than 20 million homes in the whole world. Whoever wrote the story description really had a 'tard moment.

And at least 1/2 of those homes will sell their wii/not use it within the next few months.

I actually have a friend who bought a Wii back when it was first shipped, on the release day in fact, just to say he had it. After a few months of playing it, he got sick of it and hasn't played it in a couple of years.

    Still, congrats Nintendo.

I bought mine on release day and try to play it every month at least...I doubt he hasn't played it for a a couple of years though

That's a problem, you shouldn't have to "try" to play it.

You should feel like playing it at least once or twice every couple of weeks.

Both My PS3, and 360 get multiple uses a week. Damn near everyday. I played like 3 hours of Wii in the past 6 months.

I got No More Heroes the other day and have yet to try it though.

Then what's the PS2s ratio? They must have came into a lot more houses over the last 10 years.

...Isn't there 6.7 billion people in the world? I wasn't aware that the average household had so many people in it.

Home, not person. Take into account the people in the world that don't have homes, and also the amount of people that share one home.

I know damn well what it said. Take into account how many people are in the world.

The amount of people in the world is invalid to the amount of homes, taking into account what Capn Droid said and you ignored.

No this isn't possible. There are billions of people in the world, and the Wii hasn't even sold 100 mill.

Guys, I think the article means 1 in 4 UK homes. It never said "one in four homes in the entire world has a Wii".

Also, how did I know this article would only generate Wii hate in the comments?

      Because no one like winners.

        BlackLabel Jan 18, 09
If that was the case the PS2 would have generated hate as the Wii is still a hell of a way away from beating that... 140 million+, keep going Nintendo if you can make it.

I think you were wrong there. I see...two negative comments? So, you know...you didn't "know" anything.

Considering the heading of the article very clearly says "1 in 4 homes in the entire world as a Wii" you can understand why people would be confused.

Fatal Error, the title is "Gaming revolution: One in four homes has a Nintendo Wii". Please learn to read.

Heading = intro paragraph. I would have said "title" if I meant title. Please learn how to read.

Funny that it still says "One in four homes has a Nintendo Wii", not "One in four UK homes has a Nintendo Wii". Seriously, know when to give up.

          He's right, it says

          quote Article Header
It’s official, one in four homes in the entire world is holding a Nintendo Wii.
Which is clearly not possible. Now the title header is not representative of the article of itself, even though it should be, as it is written by a Gamegrepper and not the author. However it doesn't change Fatal Error's point.

Can we just stop this flame war? The article never says "one in four homes in the entire world has a Nintendo Wii", and 1 in 4 homes in the entire world is unrealistic.

Also, the site is a UK site and only makes mention of UK sales.

End of story. Now you can all go back to saying the Wii sucks.

I have a Wii But I don't live in the UK.

And the PS2 has been around 10 years not 2 years and a few months like the Wii

I bet the majority of all of those are in the UK and USA. But still, those statistics are not correct.

1 in 4 homes has a Wii. 1 in 40 homes actually use it.
