Many of you have probably heard the rumors and seen that Sony Ericsson had filed patents for such a product but Sony will not allow Sony Ericsson to use the Playstation brand name.

Several sources close to the matter claimed Sony executives told colleagues at Sony Ericsson that it would only license the PlayStation brand if and when Sony makes handsets independently

Playing a game or a movie on my PSP and then getting interrupted by a call? No thanks. I prefer to have my phone separate. There's a reason I prefer the iPod Touch over the iPhone.

How is that worse than having a separate cell phone ringing nonstop when playing games? I'm sure it would just pause the game for incoming calls, and it could even have an optional mode for disabling phone calls when the PSP is being used.
I would consider buying a PSP phone, as long as it's not way over priced, and if it eventually comes out.

No making a ps phone so going to far and is the start of sony milking the playstation name

I wouldn't say milking because it was supposed to basically be psp2 just they upgraded to actual phone service instead of skype. Personally I would love to have a gaming phone that was a phone second and a gaming console first, because all the other gaming phones I have seen so far are the other way around.

Agreed. Most of the so called gaming phones are severely lacking in the gaming department.

It would be great if it actually happened, at least as not a phone because that image looks pretty nice. It even has dual analog sticks!

Even if your mobile service didn't have the phone in its lineup?

I would probably change my service provider after my contract was up to be honest.

Most Sony Ericsson phones aren't "supported" by a service provider. You buy it unlocked and simply connect to the network you want via SIM cards and the like. =/

So a Verizon customer, like myself, still wouldn't be able to use the phone.

          Fatal Error Jan 21, 09
Actually you could as long as the network is supported. I used SIM cards as an example because I use AT&T.

Blame your network, not the phone. If it were supported by AT&T or Sprint you couldn't use it either.

Are we still hearing news about this? :S I absolutely cannot see Sony adventuring into this territory any time soon. If they did they would need a phone/portable gaming system that competes against the following.
    1) iPhone
    2) Nintendo DS
    3) Every other smart phone on the market, or soon to be
    4) Themselves

Sony has invested a large amount of resources into two things that would create this "self competition".
    1) PSP
    2) Sony Ericsson's XPERIA X1 smart phone

If they don't include a 9.0 Megapixel camera the Cybershot phone will murder it.

Am I the only who thinks 9 megapixels is overkill? I was content with 2, now I've got 5 which is more than enough for me.

9MP is good enough for a stand-alone digital camera. Why someone would need it in a cell phone is beyond me. Hell, the Cybershot phones actually don't sell all that well because the camera is overkill and just adds to cost.

          • yeah why would you need it anyway ... you could just buy a camera for taking pictures. The outcome would be better
