It has been a while since we had an Update, but Playstation Blog has announced firmware update v2.60. This new update adds more media capabilities such as guest login to the playstation store. Fallow the link to view a video walk through of the new update.

Hi, everyone, we have a system software updates for PS3 coming soon, and I wanted to provide you with a sneak peak at the details.

The PS3 firmware update (v2.60) is designed primarily to enhance the system’s media capabilities. The key feature is a new Photo Gallery application, which delivers a suite of tools for sorting through and displaying your digital photo collection. Digital pictures can be organized in groups according to various criteria, including the camera used to take the photos, the event date and time, colors in the photos, as well as the number, ages, or facial expressions of the people pictured. You can also create slideshows set to music and build photo playlists with an easy-to-use interface. The Photo Gallery application will need to be installed separately from the XMB after you update your PS3’s firmware. To install the Photo Gallery application, go to the Photo section on the XMB, select Photo Gallery and press the X button.

The 2.60 update also includes:

Can't beat my gamegrep posting speeds.

Seems like a cool feature. The video was very impressive but I don't think I will be using it.

same with me it is cool feature to have and might use it once or twice but I don't have to many pics on my ps3. But on the other hand if you did use it to store pictures which I am sure there are many that do this would be an incredibly useful app. Also the search by age and facial expression is awesome, you don't see many apps that do that.

It's just one of those, "Oh hey, I'll have to update the PS3 to sign into PSN," updates for me.

Who actually looks at pictures on their PS3 or Xbox anyway? I never have, nor felt any desire to.

Well I have download some amazing photographs of the net and they look stunning in HD. So every once in a while I might scroll through them. But More then often I scroll through them to find a new wallpaper. I have like 200+ images on my HDD.

seriously everyone wants cross game chat and i don't see why it seems absolutely worthless to me because to me if I am playing a game I want to be playing a game not talking on what is basically skype.

I've never understood what's so damn good about cross game chat either.

I use my PS3 for pictures . . . do you play music on it? Because if so, people can say "Why? You can just use an I-pod" or something.

Anyway, I like this idea, I have pictures on my PS3 (not too too many anymore though), and about 1000+ songs on it. The more features and better organization they give us in the media department, the better!
