Capcom certainly aren't being risky this gen, recently confirming that Dead Rising 2 the long awaited sequal to the original zombie mall outing will be coming to both the 360 and the PS3. According to japanese gaming mag Famitsu the 360 version will be getting a few extras but there will be no major differences.

In the latest issue of Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, Capcom indicated that 2009 would be 'the year of multiplatform'. In 2009, they will be focusing on releasing primarily multiplatform games for both the PlayStation 3 and XBox 360.

As long as they have an online "dicking around" mode, I'll be buying it on day one.

A freeform open setting with zombies and your friends can hop in is a must. I'd be all for more of the same, but some real co-op (or a bold zombie vs. humans mode taking a page from L4D) would really get me drooling for this.

Its a good thing! More people can enjoy this fantastic series?

Agreed. And will probably ensure more games in the series in the future.
Never understood why people care about exclusivity -- I want as many people as possible to enjoy the games I love.

People care about exclusivity because it helps reconcile their purchase. Why did I bother to buy the 360 if I can get all the same games on the PS3 plus a blu-ray player? If there are no differences between the systems there is no reason to bother picking one over the other or if you have the money to get them all.

When a developer is working with just one console, they can expand on all the strengths of that specific console (whether it be 360 with more memory, PS3 and their processor, Wii and its wiimotes, that is just the most basic of the three consoles strengths among so many more has that we all do not even know about).

The more consoles that a game comes out with, the less likely the game will perform when compared to the console exclusive titles. When a developer claims that they are working on one system as its 'lead platform' over another, you can pretty must rest assured that the lead platform will run smoother in almost all regards. In some cases, they end up getting all new developers and the end product suffers because of this (one of the best examples would be The Orange Box on PS3).

^^This man speaks of truth. When 360 loses an exclusive title, it's like "more people can enjoy it!". PS3 loses an exclusive title, people are stoning the poor thing.

Well that says something about the owners doesn't it? I remember when FFI13 went multi-plat and about half of the PS3 owner's on here were putting a noose around their necks.

That was just an awesome day. I loved going on the gametrailers forums and spreading my positivity on how "more people could enjoy it" for a windup. All the freaks flew at me from the woodwork...

On topic, I hope they make the damn text easier to read! I didn't have such a great television back then and the text was damn impossible to read!!

Yeah, I remember Gametrailers damn near exploded with nerd wars when DMC4 was announced multi-platform.

Apparently Famitsu hasn't confirmed it'll be multiplatform.

Capcom's chief exec has said, "We're finally putting out new Dead Rising and Lost Planet games! As a main principle we're thinking about multi-platform, and expanding upon both slightly from the Xbox 360 version."

Not a confirmation it'll be multiplatform, but it most likely will.

Wasn't the first Dead Rising ported over to the Wii at some point? If that was the case, then the 360 lost exclusivity to this series a long time ago. That being said, I am glad I can play DR2 on my PS3.

Can't really call Dead Rising : Chop Air till you get bored a port, its horrendous and is nothing compared to the original DR on 360.

Instead of their being about 50-200 zombies on screen at a time (Rough estimate) theirs about 5, plus frank can't even take pictures, its an EXTREMELY downgraded version.

I guess the first didn't meet their expectations in terms of sales?

Going multi-platform is most often a wise strategy. It's guaranteed to generate the developers more money and attract more fanbase to the series.

With that said, I couldn't care less.

      Koloth* Feb 7, 09
Well they are making a sequel. So it must of at least met their expectations. But maybe they just think they can do better the second time by doubling or tripling their consumer base.
