My favorite music game has made me happy enough with the amount of tracks as is. Now they come out with the announcement with they could have up to 5000 songs by year end. I completely believe them and think if they wanted to, they could surpass this.

Rock Band owners currently have upwards of 600 songs to choose from, counting all of the songs in Rock Band, Rock Band 2, the AC/DC disc, and all of the DLC.

According to Billboard, now MTV has said that they hope to have 5000 songs available for Rock Band by year's end.

5,000!

Now while this may seem like an extraordinary number of songs, they may be trying to gauge the future of music distribution.

Being able to choose from such a huge catalogue, and not just from the 3-6 songs, on average, of DLC a week might appeal to some gamers.

With Rock Band and Guitar Hero users having downloaded more than 50 Million tracks already, there certainly is a market.

They better pick up the pace then. 7 tracks a week isn't going to cut it. Still if they are willing to push it then there are plenty of tracks I would love to see.

I'm thinking they must have at the very least 50 albums chambered to even make such a statement.

(And actually, doing the math on just 50 albums ready, saying that each album only has 13 tracks for example, that is still only 650 songs.... so .. they must have at least a few hundred chambered)

Yea that's what I'm saying. They have 4400 tracks to go and they are down 4 weeks already so they have some 48 weeks left this year. That's about 90 tracks a week. That's huge. And the longer they wait to get started pumping out these tracks the more they have to put out every week.

Certainly makes Guitar Hero look like a waste of time though. Even if they only get half that many it will still be near impossible to beat.

I agree. They're gonna have to start releasing albums every week, along with a dozen singles to reach that plataeu. Its a bold statement. I hope they can live up to it.

Great news, like Koloth there are tons of tracks I would love to see. Would also be interesting if they do something bold like including groups like The Roots. That would be mind blowing awesome.

They have already brought country songs in, they have supported Beastie Boys in both games, so I think the next step would definitely be some hip hop acts that include real instruments in their music.

That would be awesome, and I almost forgot about the Beastie Boys - though I wish some of their older tracks (and maybe a few from their punk days) were included as well.

That's ridiculous man. Yeah they have to go all out to do that and expand to some mainstream pop or country - anything that uses mainly guitars and drums.
