This isn't final by any means, but it seems like its sad truth. Gamestop received an e-mail from Sony stating that God of War 3 is set to be released around March 2010. If you think about this, it makes sense as the last to games were released in march.

We still don't have an official release date for the hotly anticipated action title, although most fans were hoping to see it some time later this year. Some recent evidence, including a sneak peek at the gameplay that SCEA will be offering to some publications in February, makes people believe in a 2009 launch. However, most realists will say the game has a Q1 2010 estimate, which we've certainly heard before. Now, we're hearing it again: according to HipHopGamer, retailer GameStop has apparently received an e-mail from Sony that says GoWIII will release in March 2010. We have to assume Sony sent this message so GameStop could begin taking pre-orders (they can't take pre-orders unless there's an estimated release), so it's certainly just a placeholder. But even so, it now seems readily apparent that GoWIII will not, in fact, be ready in time for 2009. There are plenty of fantastic titles on tap for this year, of course, but next to KZ2, GoWIII is next on the "most anticipated" list for many PlayStation 3 owners.

It also makes sense as 2009 is ram full of great PS3 games God of War itself my get swamped among the likes of Heavy Rain and Uncharted 2 with Ratchet and Clank also in there this year is a tough year for any franchise, Sony obviously just want the most sales possible and if 2010 is looking to be a weaker year on their schedule God of War 3 will certainly make it stronger for them and the game itself.

What a daft suggestion. God of War won't be affected by any of those games.

Honestly, sequel to 2 of the best PS2 games vs new IP, unestablished IP and a game where there will be little crossover between fans.

There are more than that, and I know it helps me, because I would certainly like to pick up the game, but many other exclusives coming out this year come first.

True enough, but maybe they're worried that releasing GoW3 so close will make everyone ignore those games instead, so they stall it a little so as to give the other games more of a chance. So all the other games don't get swamped among GoW as they would have.

Either that, or Sony just don't think the game'll be finished until March.

The most likely reason obviously, I was merely stating that BL's claim was still valid; just mixed up a little.

Hardly daft, gaming has changed since the PS2 the exclusives Sony now has are all of a much higher standard. God of War of old was the best of the best, now it will have to be very good to garner any attention. Sure old school fans will get it for the story but the games that sell well this generation also pick up millions of new fans. That will be easier to do in March 2010 than October 2009 when every platforms major games will be coming out.

Like Metal Gear Solid 4 and Killzone 2 release when there is little to no competition and you reap the rewards far greater than releasing in the biggest gaming month on the gaming calendar... But whatever God of War is great i personally don't give a shit when it releases i am buying it anyway, but i would prefer it to come out in 2010 as it saves me to spend £500 on the other PS3 exclusives in October/November 2009.

Wow, GOW3 was supposed to be a big hitter for the PS3 this year, that's gonna deal a big blow with it coming out in 2010.

Please, man, don't say that again. We've got enough coming this year, and it's only coming out 3 months into 2010. If you expected it out in Winter 2010, a marginally longer wait shouldn't affect things very much.

Big blow? The PS3 has enough games coming out this year.

For one, I actually like the fact that they're taking their time with GOW3. In the mean time, I'll probably be busy with SFIV, Tekken 6, Batman: AA, RE5 and Uncharted 2.

Um, Sub only one of those games is an exclusive. Not really leading the charge for the PS3 there man.

I think he's just listing games that'll tide him over in general; a way of helping personally get over the push back as opposed to sticking up for PS3. Look forward to what he has got to play instead of what he hasn't.

Maybe, but he started off by defending the PS3. Saying it has plenty of games coming out this year. All well and good. But if you're defending the PS3 and listing a bunch of multiplatform titles it is kind of a weak defense. Not really softening the "blow to the PS3".

But if you're just looking for games to fill time between now and then that's fine. Plenty of games to go around.

Well, I'm guessing he just didn't want to make two replies to the article so he replied to FFF (not necessarily defending Sony, just correctin FFF) and then made his own comment, meant to be seperate from his previous sentiment, after.

Exactly. They were two seperate comments. I wasn't really defending Sony to begin with. I was just saying they have enough games coming out. Thanks for understanding TOW.

Just make it the best they can is all I can say. Go figure - the longer it is in production the better and bigger it'll be. More time = more blood.

PLus it gives me a lot of time to play all the games blacklabel mentioned. I don't like my schedule crammed.

Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness. That was delayed multiple times and took ages to be released and that ended up being the worst TR of all.

Longer production doesn't always mean better product.

        reaver11 Jan 31, 09
And your point being? TR at that time was already heading for the shitter. GOW has nowhere to go but up. You're telling me a longer production time won't make the game better?

          Hunskelper Jan 31, 09
Tomb Raider had only one disappointing game before Angel of Darkness, and even then it was mediocre, not bad. Then there's the fact that the new PS2 Hardware could've completely reinvigorated the franchise.

Doesn't always mean a worse product either. Gran Turismo gets delayed almost every game. Mainly because some douche gives the press a release date just to shut them up and it is always way to early. Polyphony works hard to make the game the absolute best they can every time.

I would assume the God of War team is working hard as well. And truthfully GoW hasn't been delayed. It was never officially announced it would release in 2009 anyway.

I don't mind, there are a lot of games I want to play this year, the most notable being Uncharted 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum and Wanted. (I highly recommend that you check this game out, the gameplay looks awesome)

I didn't expect it to come out this year, hell this'll give me enough time to play the first two games.

      ChozenMaster Jan 31, 09
Agreed. I've only played snippets of the first two. This'll give me the chance to play through I, II, and Chains of Olympus.

I'm still skeptical of this source. In the interview PSW had with the developers a few months ago they said they were aiming to get this out by December 2009. Wouldn't surprise me if it was delayed until 2010, but all the same, I think we'll know for sure when the first 'proper' trailer arrives on February 22nd.

Hopefully the new trailer has some footage of what Jaffe saw; that's what we all want to see.
