In their investors' conference call for the third quarter, Electronic Arts has confirmed that the survival horror Dead Space will make it's way to Nintendo's motion-controlled console. There are no further details available at this time.

Also in that same conference call, EA has confirmed that half of its title support will be for the Wii.

EA just confirmed a Wii version of Dead Space in its Q3 investor call.

The firm said it is to focus on stronger marketing for Wii in the coming year, with Dead Space, new tennis titles, three MySims games and Hasbro brands

We’re a little unclear on release date for the new version of 2008’s celebrated horror, but this year is a safe bet. Mr EA’s call’s a little flaky in the quality department.

The news comes on the back of confirmation of a heavy Q3 loss for the developer.

The game was annoying enough using a standard control.

    This is disturbing news......
However I look forward to seeing the Wii corrupted.
And I hope it does well -- didn't sell great on consoles/PC and it deserves to.

Oh that's right, since you played it and know that it's a bad game. I'm confused who on earth would give you a thumbs up for this comment.

I can't wait for all the people from the Dead Rising convo to come over here and cry "BUT IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE AWESOME GRAPHICS THEN WHAT'S THE POINT?"

I'm so excited about all these games getting attention on the Wii. Props to the developers. '09 Powerhouse, look out!

The reason people are expecting the Dead Rising port to suck balls isn't the drop in graphics quality, it's the drop in number of zombies on the screen.

And the graphics in the original Dead Rising weren't that great in the first place.

I know they weren't complaining about the graphics (well, some people were) but my point was that they'll complain about something in the original that won't be in the port, thereby making it automatically crap. Anyway I was just being sarcastic.

Seriously, you cant be telling me you think capcom did a good job on it. About every preview there is its being slagged off for being crap. The only ones here that are blind to that are you and that A2 guy or whatever his name is.

You know sometimes you need to just admit you're pissed that you have a Wii with horrible online support and many of the same games that could've been done better on the gamecube without the motion sensing controller. It's far more tiring to sit there and argue with people over the quality of games ported over to the Wii than to simply accept that sometimes the grass really is greener on the other side. If you enjoy the Wii because you like Mario, Zelda, and some of the other quality games and prefer them to the games on the 360 and PS3, that's fine. However, that doesn't seem to be the case here.

With a game like Dead Rising, it really is about the graphical capabilities of the Wii vs. the 360. Having hundreds of zombies on screen at a time is part of what made Dead Rising so fun in the first place. Eliminating that factor is huge in the gameplay aspect.

Even more, I don't think I could stand using the motion controller to play the game.

The motion sensing controls will just add to the poor quality of the game.

I hope the port fails, but considering how many people own a Wii it'll sell alot =| Even though it'll probably be one of the worst games of this year.

This could work, if they made it like Resi4.

    .....

    Yeah.

Time to see another amazing game get half-assed for a quick buck.

I doubt this will do well, everyone always compares these ports to the original, which logically they just can't beat. If they were original games they would do fine, but everyone always compares them to their bigger brothers.

Wow, this will look absolutely terrible compared to the original 360 and PS3 versions.

Alot will be cut out and the game will look poor visually. Hf with yet ANOTHER shoddy port!

We Wii gamers don't care as much about graphics as the other guys out there

Sure they are nice, but gameplay is what matters

Yeah but.....these games with Wii graphics...I really dont know. I think to some extent the graphics can be important, and with these particular titles it is...

See, i was referring to the graphics BUT i was also referring to how much stuff will be taken out the game and how drastically it will be changed just so the Wii can handle it.

        Some rooms in the ship itself will have to be taken out and alot of the visual effects will have to be changed ; ;

It won't look good, it won't play good and overall it'll just be downright garbage when compared to the original.

Make the controls like in RE4, and I'm in. I hope they take the time and effort to make this good. Make the Wii version different, in a good way.

Has someone forgotten? One of the big selling factors in Dead Rising was the number of enemies on screen..

The Wii version to me, just defeats the entire original premise of the game...

Dead Rising? Dead Space? I'm on to you, Nintendo.

Who knows, if they do it right it may turn out awesome. Then again this is EA, no chance of that happening -_-
In all seriousness though the graphics would take a hit but if they used an engine like High Voltage is using for the Conduit the drop wouldn't too noticable, especially considerng how dark a lot of Dead Space was anyway. I don't really recall any parts of Dead Space where you had loads of zombies on-screen at once (Although I may well have forgotten some) so that wouldn't really be an issue either. And ultimately the size of the enviroment could be handled by the Wii realtively well, although the detail would go down and a few places would be lost. And the motion controls could work out quite well in a game like Dead Space, the shooting aspect is already a given (Provided they give custom callibration to the sensitivty and the like, as well as turning speed. Although even without it the aim would still be fine if they got it right) and the motion controls would be quite fun regarding other aspects (Nodes much). In all honesty I can't see controls being an issue at all if they did the system right, the problem would be how they did it if anything.
The only real issue I see in regards to the port is the fact they'll try to take Dead Space and alter it to work on the Wii, where it should really be rebuilt from the ground up. Or rather as you would when transporting something like a wardrobe from one house to another, you need to take it apart and put it back together once you're in the new house. Unless you have a very big door. Yes that bad analogy was completely nessercary.

Regardless, I'm not holding out any hope for this, it'll probably wind up getting massacered =/

I smell a serious lack of paragraphs.

Interesting to see how the Wii handles Dead Space controls-graphics-immersion etc.

I read the first line before deciding not to bother with the rest.

EA made 3 of my favourite games of last year, Dead Space, Mirrors Edge and Fifa 09. They seem to be doing everything they can to move away from their image of just releasing new sports games and should be applauded as such.
