It has been confirmed that Mass Effect will be going multiplatform when it releases in 2010. It's not clear whether multiplatform means that it will be hitting the 360 and the PC simultaneously or that the PS3 could be included in the list. PS3 users will have to sit back and wait for more confirmation on this.

EA CEO John Riccitiello has revealed that Mass Effect 2 will appear on "multiple platforms" early next year.

"[In Q4] BioWare will release Mass Effect 2 on multiple platforms," he said during an EA earnings call, referring to the fourth quarter of the company's next fiscal year. In non-business speak, that means a January-March 2010 launch.

I really don't care what platforms it's on, as long as I get to play it.

As long as I can transfer my save file - and we can see the results of some choices (like letting the watchamacallit queen live); I am there. That, imho, a save file continuation system like in Baldurs Gate 2, or the hack games, would take ME2 into the stratosphere!

*bleep* yes, I've been waiting for mass effect 2 for ages.

Cant wait to see what new stuff they add. Gotta add this to my wish list now.

If it does go PS3 it sucks that they wont be able to use the Save continuation feature. It must have been confirmed recently(if it is going to PS3) otherwise they would have put no1 on there too.

Too bad Too Human (no pun intended) didn't get the sales the hype machine was hoping for. It was also going to allow people to load their save file in sequels. But given how much that game was slamed, and the recent layoffs at Silicon Knights, I think we won't be seeing a return of Baldur anytime soon (or ever)

Mass Effect is regarded as one of the best video games of the next-gen consoles (and its my favorite game on the 360), so as far as I'm concerned, Bioware can take as long as they wish on the sequel as long as the final product is the type of quality we expect from the company.

As for it being multiplatform; Good. Just means that more people will get to experience Mass Effect and its greatness.

Didn't they use the exact same phrase with the original Mass Effect when they announced the PC version? I remember them kinda hiding the existence of a PC version and then, a few months later after release, saying "We're going multiplatform and making a PC version!"

They didn't even attempt at denying a PC version of the sequel though and I've seen them toss around vague words a lot.

It's been confusing as no one has claimed it wasn't possible for Mass Effect 2 to go multiplatform though. I've never seen MS claim the rights, BioWare say they're not, or EA say they can't. But still, the word multiplatform was used with PC/360 games made by BioWare before. I wouldn't bank on it now.

Either way, whatever. I'm just worried that EA will rush it and milk the franchise and kill BioWare for me forever.

EDIT: was checking out TeamXbox and they're saying EA PR is denying a PS3 port when asked about the comment. So, if we ARE supposed to inerpret 'multiplatform' as 360/PS3, why make the comment and then deny it? So, yeah. As much as I'd loooooove to see ShadowGuard and Krunal end up praising the game and shit, I'm not feeling confident yet.

Commonly multiplatform means for 360/PS3/PC. And half the time "360 exclusive" also includes a PC port (Gears, Halo, L4D). But considering how they regarded it when ME first came out, "multiplatform" is very misleading.

Good news if it comes to PS3. That is, of course, coming from a PS3 owner. I'm sure if it did come, the reaction of 360 fanboys would be akin to when FFXIII did what it did.

Hell no it wouldn't. ME has only had one game thus far, whilst SquareEnix kept most of it's memorable titles with Sony. FFXIII was a shocker, ME2 would just be pulling a BioShock.

I'd be happy either way. Like DMD, Mass Effect is one of my favorite games on the 360, and I would like others to experience just how kick-ass it really is.

Kind of. With Gears and Halo, leading up to their release on Xbox, they were called exclusives because they were. There was no announced PC version. With Left 4 Dead, the game is called a "console exclusive" usually by Xbox fans but places like IGN DO call it multiplatform.

This situation is similar to Gears of War. The original started as a 360 exclusive and was pressed as that, cause it was. There were no announcements of the PC version. However, unlike Gears of War 2, BioWare isn't hiding or denying a PC version of Mass Effect 2. So, it's not an 'exclusive' like the original at this stage, so they can't really call it that.

But context matters haha. BioWare makes PC games all the time, so multiplatform can be seen as PC/360. However, if Hideo came out and said "MGS4 is multiplatform!", then it'd be less ambiguous than BioWare saying it. I don't know.

I'm not convinced yet. I don't know what the point is in hiding it, honestly. It's either being a dick and not telling PS3 owners you're making a game for them or giving people cruel false hope. Just *bleep*ing tell us. I guess either way I'll be playing in a year. Still kina dickish.

I agree; developers need to just tell us what they're doing, instead of being so goddamn cryptic about everything.
