The first Uncharted cost 20 million USD. That money was also used to create and engine for the ps3. Now that Naughty Dog also has their engine, you would think the next game would cost less, right? Well no, Naughty Dog will be using that money to create a much more rich and spectacular single player game. All for the better I say. We need more story driven games.

The budget for the first game was said to be around $20 million dollars, and that had to include that engine creation from scratch, which is a big thing. Since you are using the same engine, has this been a cheaper endeavor? Are you guys spending the same amount?

We are spending the same amount. You always want to be able to just do more. Definitely it is a leg up to start with that technological foundation, but what you try to do with it is just that much more.
"... it is a leg up to start with that technological foundation, but what you try to do with it is just that much more."

Not only is the spectacle part of things that we are doing bigger, in terms of the kind of enemies and encounters that Drake is going to find himself in, but we are also trying to deliver a richer narrative experience as well. So both sides come at a cost. In order to get all those real big set pieces it requires a lot of custom scripting of events every moment of the way. You have got something happening; an explosion happening or even just a water drip. All those little effects take time and people to do.

Damn straight. Playstation games tend to be more story driven than MS or Ninty (see MGS, Uncharted, SoTC, Okami, past FF games).

Now give us coop and we're perfect.

And it just seems like it would fit this game so well. ND even said so in the IGN interview. So maybe we might see co-op, especially since your partner seems to be more prevalent in the game. I can imagine the uproar if your partner follows you the whole time, but co-op isn't available. Especially considering how they describe so much freedom in levels.

$20 million is quite low for a modern day exclusive IP, no doubt Killzone 2 cost 8 times that to make just by how long it was in development, most games are pushing $100 million these days.

Not most games, but really high tier ones usually cost around that(gtaIV).

Although, it depends on how they spend it, it could just be a case of naughty dog being a hell of a lot more efficient with their finance.
